Ive been looking for awhile and havent found the answers im looking for.....whats a stronger front axle for a chevy/gm stock axle the dana 44 or the corp 10 bolt?

they run the same outers, and axles, and both are an 8.5 ring gear......
more aftermarket for the D44 tho.

Go wit the 44 chris, everyone on here will tell you eather go 60 or your wasting your time:rolleyes:

Just remember tho with all your extra weight, thast gonna be a huge downfall for you!!!! Thats why I lost the fullsize and got a yota. . . they are way more pratical for around here. . . .

Best thing i would suggest is weld your u-joint caps into your shafts and carry atleast one outer and both inner axleshafts with you everytime you go to play. . . . On average the ford would destroy a shaft, every other outing:mad:

thanks for the help guys im trying to get some axles from a 3/4 ton sub and the front is a corp 10 bolt and the rear is a ff 14 bolt, i have a 1/2 ton dana 44 from a blazer on it right now and was trying to figure out if i should just get a HD dana 44 or swap shafts for the one i have now. How do you make my 1/2 ton dana 44 into a 3/4 ton dana 44? This set up will be temporary im looking a getting a dana 60 from a dodge down the road and setting up coils in the front on the chev.....whats your guys opinion on that?

oh i forgot to mention im going to be running 39.5 iroks with 17 inch beadlocks, 350 with turbo 350 tranny and 203/205 cases 488 gears? dunno yet and detroit lockers front and rear, eventually shortening the truck more and 4 linking the rear

You want to play with the big boys, then you need to skip the step of D44/10bolt and go straight to a D60.

Yeah chris I didn't realize you were going 39.5's with a doubler and 4.88's. . . Man honestly you are better off not spending a dime on your front untill you can afford a 60. . . . .

Even if you step up to 3/4ton it will make a very minimal if any improvement.

Me and Crash had this same convo when I was building the ford. . . With all the extra weight we have, its just to much stress to make it solid. I was running 36's with 4.10's and just a 205 and I would snap my shafts all day long:eeek:

Weight is gonna be your biggest enemy with this build. . . anything other the 1 ton is not going to last long:beer:

I'm going out of town for 30days. . . . but when I get back the yota should be out of the shop and I would love to come check this beast out and help anyway I can:awesomework:

Your doing the best thing you can for yourself, asking questions!!!! Its a great community here, with lots of knowledge:cool:

inner splines are smaller on a 10bolt 27 vs 30 spline. after ten years of using up every d44 shaft in my area and all the wrecking yards too, I went back to a tenbolt axle cuz I could find tons of shafts in the wrecking yards 80 -92 blazer, sub, truck etc.

If you are going aftermarket from the start, get the d44. if trying to keep it wheeling for free/cheap go ten bolt. if trying to keep wheeling for more than an hour or so then go with a d60:beer:

IMO you don't wanna run a 44/10 bolt..

So ive read all your comments and was looking for a dana 60 from a dodge and a chevy.....I want to set it up for coils on the front is it worth it to looking any further into the dodge axle? Its 2 inches shorter and not the lug pattern i need to match my ff 14 bolt. On the posative side of the dodge dana 60 is it already has the coils all set up.....Or should I get one from a chev and just make the front suspension to run dodge 6 inch lift coils?

u dont want a newer dodge 60, unit bearing garbage.
and if its a 60 front, its gonna be 8 lug. which would be the same as the 14 bolt.

I have a complete set of 3/4ton chevy 44 shafts, inners and outer both sides if you need them???

I need waggys, but thank you though. Gonna try Pull a Part today, then Olympic tommorow. I do have a buddy that might need chevy shafts but he's in no hurry, I'll let you know if he does want them.
