Did you know they come in Honda passports?? We have a 95 passport in here and low and behold its sporting a D44 with disc.

I have seen a Honda D44 swapped into a jeep in a four wheeler magazine article. Don't recall the article had anything bad to say about the axle.

I don't know how big a deal disks are in a D44. Once you go bigger than 32" tire the brakes will suck. I'm sure with drumbs they will suck too.

Either way you'll have shitty brakes.

Are you on crack??:eeek:

I'll/most of us here will take disc brakes over drum anyday of the week.

I think I heard somewhere about using the disk brakes off of them but the axle as a whole wasn't great.

Joop, Let me qualify my statement. My disk braked D44 rear has crappy brakes. Even the e-brake is crap. My D44 disked front has brakes for crap. (This is a pretty common gripe of Jeep Wrangler owners).

There is nothing like rolling backwards down a rock face and realizing that you can't stop if you wanted. All you can do is arrest the acceleration backwards. (been there, didn't like it)

Am I on crack; no. But is wish that I was every time I need to stop but can't; it would be less scarry.

Disk brakes off road are said to be so much superior, but from my own personal experience in this D44 equiped jeep, I don't see how drumbs could be any worse.

Just my personal rant.:stirpot:

If your brakes suck that bad you have a problem... If its such a problem with wrangler owners why is it that everyone I wheel with that has a wrangler has fawking sweet brakes? Oh, and they are DRUM brakes... The closest thing to drumB would be DUMB... :flipoff:

From your picture is looks like you have a pubicon, and those don't have "real" D44's... So, arn't you complaining about your hybrid D35's disk brakes:corn:

And from reading that third paragraph/grouping of words, it seems you are on crack from that excellent sentence structure:haha:

I dont know all the years they came in but the late 90s passports and rodeos came with the disc brake 44s. I ran one for about 3 years. Except for a few small differences its the same as other 44 as far as strength/weakness.

The front pinion bearing is smaller than what comes in a master install kit. The gears are "thick" so if you are keeping them you have to get the appropriate locker, if you are swapping gears it doesnt matter. They are 6 lug so match up nicely to a waggy front end. Disc brakes with built in ebrakes, nice long cables. I vaguely remember changing the yoke so maybe it wasnt a 1310. 58-59" wms to wms

Prob find more info on pirate about them. Its a good alternative to a scout 44 and like i said matches nicely to a waggy front without having to do a lug conversion.
