I'm gettin ready to start my new build... Specs r gonna be tube chassis with an 01 ex s10 cab... Yes gonna be a truggy... 5.3 engine th400 203/205 doubler linked f/r with 60/14 combo... Thinkin bout runnin 5.13 gears grizzly lockers f/r with 1410 driveshaft joints... This is my first set of tons and I'm looking for different opinions on strength... I wanna run either 43 sx or 44 pitbull... I really prefer the pitbull but it's so damned wide! The truck will weigh in between 5 and 6k pounds... I see a lot of buggies run runnin 44" tires but are a lot lighter than what my truggy will be... So my question is what y'alls opinions on the 60...will it hold up to the 44 pitbull? Will Yukon chromos with Bobby long joints and 35 spline drive flanges hold up to pretty hard trail riding? Will the knuckles and inner c's hold up? Any advice would be appreciated.. Thanks!

Alot depends on your driving style just about as much as the weight of the rig.
Yukons can last forever under alot of rigs. If you believe you will be extremely aggressive then
RCVs are the answer for 98% of us, but the answer is everything can be broken.

Driving style is pretty aggressive... I been hearing quite a few bad things about rcv standing by their product lately...I doubt I run them... Is superior Evo a better choice than Yukon?

i realize **** breaks no matter what you have... but im looking for the most bang for my buck without buyin rcv's...i also may stick to the 43 sx to be more dependable than the fat pitbull... keep the suggestions coming.. thanks ;D

RCV's warranty is the best available, what have you been hearing???? You won't find a cheaper combo of joints and axles with
anywhere near the reliability of RCV.

Please tell us the numerous bad things you've heard :dunno:

Once u warranty one they say sorry bout your luck... After a few rides they start clicking and they say sorry bout your luck...this isn't a bash rcv thread... I can't afford em and don't wanna run em...I may not have a choice... If I'm wrong on their warranty please correct me...

agreed - It was rumored that RCV had cancelled their "you break it we replace it warranty" but JoJo said himself that they are still replacing his.

unless you have 500+ horsepower and drive like a mad man I wouldnt be a bit scared to run RCV's - examples from just this weekend - Ritchie's plow boy buggy, destroyed atlas but didnt break shafts

Mark's buggy - destroyed D60 pinion but didnt break an axle - JoJo, jumped 10 ft in the air and didnt break an axle - My old buggy broke R & P but axles held up

I wouldn't write a company off for not holding up in two or three buggies

with RCV's warranty and price that's the only shafts that I can afford to run

Y 5.13 and a doubler that's alot of gear
and with a stock 5.3 u will never break RCV

The people who r breaking them r wide open rock bouncing runin 500+HP
Its not that RCV r junk its the wide open HP bouncing on the high side next people r goin to say atlas is junk

:eat:

5.13 because i figured would relieve some pressure off case and trans...again im new to tons and big parts...maybe im shootin too low...everybody is saying rcv..is it a must?? im not planning on rock bouncing...will any of the shafts and joints be dependable on your average heavy pig trail rig?? keep the info coming....thanks fellas...

This is exactly what I expected, until someones warranty is canceled, PLEASE do not spread rumors like this :dblthumb:

I think that some people expect too much, I run them not because of the warranty, but because they are the most
reliable for the price point. I like to drive, not change axles regardless of said warranties. thumb.gif

I did not like the clicking at first either but they are tough for sure.

I broke front gear set Sat and the RCV were fine - I am pretty well sold on the RCV

thanks for the correction matlock! ;D i may go down in tire size and run the 42 pitbull...i really dont wanna drop that kinda coin on axles yet...may save it for a future upgrade.. thanks for all the input

And for the money you really cant beat them - heck by the time you buy good shafts and CTMs you are not far from the money for a lesser product

Give Chase at East Coast Gear Supply a call for your shafts he has some real nice ones that sound like they will be right in your price range. He also will carry a lifetime warranty on them. I have been thinking about the Bobby Long u-joints also, I would say for the price they are hard to beat. Chase also has a killer deal on the Yukon superjoints that he will also stand behind. As far as tires its up to you but I like the 42 better little less stress on the drivetrain. And the 513 gears with a 203/205 are going to be low geared. you will run out of first gear in about 5 feet. but 2 and 3 will be your play gears if you stay with the 513.

I bought what I could afford 10 factory axles and Longfield u joints. I know they are as strong as the RCVs. But hopefully the 10 Factory axles will last until I can buy better?

No kidding, I've been waiting for the "Pirate Parrots" to start squawking about Atlases being junk...

I wouldn't be afraid of RCVs at all. I've run Longfield 30 spliners in my Toy for years (made by RCV). Their warranty is rock solid. Of course if you call them up and bitch and moan about a broke part that they are going to replace for FREE, then they SHOULD refund your $ and tell you to **** off...

NO other company has warranty like that. Most have a "One time replacement, then discounts or refund after" type of warranty, or NONE at all...

One thing about RCVs is that they dont have "crow hop" like standard ujoints. Although this isn't really a big deal with full hydro, they are much smoother when hammering on it when steered.

Maybe if he'd paint that plow puller Kubota Orange it wouldn't break so easy :flipoff1:
