detroit locker question?

im pretty sure you can change the inners out to runn 31 spline shafts but can this be done with out taking the ring and pinion apart? also where would i look for the inner 31 spline carriers? has anyone ever done this or should i just look for a 31 spline detroit?

I've changed out the side gears of a detroit (went from 35 to 40 spline) and it's an easy job. You don't have to pull the ring gear off the housing. My application is a D60 so it might be different.

Randy's has parts available last time I checked.

Digger5 on this board knows more about Detroits than anyone else here. You might PM him.

What diff are you wanting to re-work? 9", 8.8"?

Not true. You only need to buy two parts to change the spline count. Should be a lot less.

your right.... it SHULD be cheeper.... but go ahead, call randys... see how much they cost...

my guess , you could probably buy a new grizly for cheeper than the sidegears... and then you wouldnt need to worry about destrying the locker if you bust an axle like you do with a detroit...
