so, i was driving thru monroe the other day, made a u turn on highway 2, straightened it out, and all of a sudden i hear this loud POW and my whole truck jerks to the right. i have had this happen a few times before, and i am pretty sure its my detroit, since several people have told me that it will pop, and will probably scare the hell out of me the first couple of times. i am just wondering what causes it.

In stop and go traffic, the teeth on the clutches don't engage all the way.

Then when you start to go again, those teeth want back in there and will bang when they finally get lined up and "click" into place.

This phenominon happens to me about once a month in my TJ. I thought I broke something the first couple times it happened, but now I'm used to it.

Its a detroit.... They can and will unlock and thats what your experiancing. Mine did it too when i was driving on the road keeps ya awake!:redneck:

Typical detroit--but it may be more prevelant if the rear housing has a slight bend in it(typical toy problem). One reason I never ran a detroit....

I love it when I have a passenger and it does that...scares the **** outta them. Usually happens when I am accelerating out of a corner

When my housing was bent with a detroit, you could hear it. When the unit was trying to let the wheels differentiate, it went "BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG". It wasn't normal detroit stuff.

95% of the time, my detroit makes no noise.

im use to a lot of noise from my locker cause its an aussie, when i free coast around a corner it sounds like some is holding a rachet (sp?) next to my ear.

I remember when DD the jeep with Detroit and V8...you'd get on the gas and POW...it fealt like someone just rear-ended ya in there ricer :redneck:

mine never did it in my auto jeep, but now with the 5 speed in the YJ it does it every so often. But like karl said 95% of the time it doesnt make any noise.

Be happy yers still does it. My old toy did it ONCE when i was backing up at a gas station. People ducked and i swore i broke a axle.

Like most of the other guys who have posted up mine made a little noise that is norm, Now I was talking to my friend and his Detroit is fawked after he just broke his 3rd Superior 14 bolt shaft and his Detroit was making some noise after the 2nd one snaped. So maybe you will want to check it out.
