How do you keep a dog from peeing on something? I have a 150 pound American bulldog. He is awesome in every way except how much and where he pees. When i Iet him out he won't go in the yard to wiz, he goes all over the deck. On the chairs, tables, posts, grill, and anything else sitting on the deck. The entire area smells like dog piss so much that we can't even sit outside and enjoy a beer. I've pressure washed , scrubbed and sprayed but he keeps going back to the same spots. Is there a dog piss repellent that will make him not want to mark where its sprayed?

Have the water hose ready and spray him with it as soon as he starts pissing on the porch. Or put him on a leash and take him off the porch. Once he has learned a new spot, he will stop pissing there.

Another method would be to try feeding him on the porch. Animals are reluctant to piss where they eat for the most part.

Once he stops pissing there, bleach everything and then give it time to go away. Try a product called odoban which can be found at lowes. Put it in a bug sprayer and hose everything down with it.

Positive reinforcement take on it:
put a few treats in your pocket when you take him outside.. he goes in the yard, love on him, give him a treat...repeat as necessary until he has it built into his head that "hey, this is where I go". With enough repetition you will no longer need to give him a treat. My fiancé was adamant about putting our beagle through a puppy training school when we first got her. This case works best with her.

or

Negative reinforcement take on it:
he goes on the porch, rolled up newspaper usually works...repeat as necessary until you get the desired effect. Some people may not like that approach but it is what it is.

Standing out there and giving him treats won't work. He is such a lover he will hold it all day so he can lean on me lol

Have another male dog piss where you want yours to, or try it yourself. He will naturally try to cover the other scents with his own.

Go piss where you want him to. My AB is lazy and pisses all around the porch as well, but at 12 I am not trying to teach an old dog new tricks. Good looking dog!!!

It helps if you pee on it in the same fashion he does, for authenticity. Just get on all fours, hike you leg and let it go. Then walk ten feet and do it again and then go back and smell it. It will fix it for sure thumb.gif :dblthumb:

But he probably thought he was peeing on a tree. Shadow is probably the coolest dog I have ever seen, just blindly wandering from place to place eating funnel cakes and Tbones! I want to see the video of you holding him keeping him from falling out of the buggy.

Southern Shenanigans Busted knuckle Films. ;)

He pees on the grill, go pee in his water bowl!!!!!

No, seriously, take him out another door from the deck and teach him a new place as noted above. Keep him off the deck until he is retrained. Some dogs, praise is much better than treats. A scolding when wrong, they can tell by the inflection in your voice that you are not happy, you don't have the scream and yell, or lay a hand on the dog. Give a command to pee or do his business, use it everytime you take him out. Ours is "Be quick".

Training collar works wonders my dog won't use the bathroom in my yard at all!

Holy crap, do I need to ask where you hooked it up to???????????????????? Hello PITA, blah blah blah= Busted

A training collar might be my only option. Taking him out the other door and aaround back will be a huge pain in the ass. He just turned 5 and recently started doing this, maybe he's just getting lazy as he gets older? Lol

Telling you, try feeding him on the porch.
