Ok. The way I see it you have to have a pretty good work ethic to be in our sport. A lot of us work your 8 hours for the man then go home and thrash on whatever you have destroyed on your rig.

Now with that being said, what Im curious about is what do you do when you have a little down time at your primary job. Do you sit around in the break room and look at hardline on you phone? Or do you find something to work on?

I myself am lucky enough to have a job that has a little down time on the clock built in. This morning I was called in at 3am to cover someone that was "sick"... So I brought the only one of my tires I haven't had a chance to grove with me to work. took about an hour and I got paid for it.

What about you? What government projects do you work on?

Once upon a time when I worked at Inline Electrical Supply, we took 2 forklifts and lifted my Mustang off the ground, then sat it back down on two huge spools of wire. Then proceeded to replace the clutch. The 2 managers at that place were huge into RC planes, and would spend ALL DAY building them.

No idea why it closed down... :dunno:

Re:

I work for myself. Basically a glorified cashier at a liquor store. I have a garage door in the back and have pulled apart a Toyota top end back there, broke down some beadlocks, etc. Its nice when there is no boss to catch you. I stay pretty busy these days, but do hop on Hardline a few times a day.

I work Fire/EMS. We work 24hr shifts....in the evenings between calls I have grooved tires...changed fluids...general stuff like that. Im at work today and riding GMP this week so I brought the buggy in for a little prepping ;).

Can't hardly get away with changing fluids at my work... We have a old container trailer that was converted in to a make shift work shed with some work benches, vices, grinders, and a welder. It ain't much but it's nice to be able to piddle in there a couple times a week.

I work at a Coop and we shut down our tire shop because it was"losing money". 2 jeeps, an antique tractor and a couple of pulling trucks have been built over the past three years in the fully functional former tire shop! This was mine on the rack just the other day! It makes it hell to sit at your desk when you are trying to look busy knowing your rig is down there and needs work!

Re:

I spend a lot of time on the internet, researching my next mod, looking at trail fixes, build threads etc. If I have something I need to make I usually bring it in with me and can find the downtime to do it

I'm a product development engineer, so while I can't work on stuff while at work, I have designed a bunch of parts using Pro-E and had my friends in the machine shop cut them out on the laser and bend them up for me. One of the more interesting parts I did though was an HVAC return panel for my wife's birthday. I designed it in Pro-E by looking at a picture my wife found on the internet. The guy in the shop cut it on the laser and bent it for me. I later added a grey foam over the filter to hide it. The air filter is not visible any more through the metal panel.
