Drove it out under it's own power

Okay everyone. Here's a chance to post up a pic, or story, about your broken POS, that you fixed and drove out under your own power.

My contribution may look like the tire just fell off, but in reality, I snapped a chromoly shaft, broke the ball joints and steering knuckle, and the whole wheel, hub, and steering knuckle seperated from the axle.

Lucky for me I happened to have the parts to get it back on the trail.

i just had a broken birf/shock mount. still pretty easy to drive out( once i pulled the broken birf out)

LOL. Treeclimber thans the same side I broke on last years Snow run at Reiter. See Jan/feb Crawl mag for pic. :redneck:

NO.. Tim has no clue he was on the sidelines eating twinkies. we actually found out the hard-way that dana 30 hubs need the outter shaft in. Or the bearing pop's apart. So my wheel actually fell off twice on the same trail. But I drove it back to the trailer. :redneck:

A buddy and I decided to take a little drive over to the other side and up Blewett Pass toward Liberty/Table Mountain area. It was hot enough down below that a girl was putting gas in her Honda in a bikini.

We got up to the spring snow-line (4500' or so) and tried to make it up the trail to a spot we like to stop and BS. We got a few miles in, about 5500' and the snow was a little much for where out rigs were at at the time. We turned around, headed down the mucho bumpy hill, and my rig started acting funny. Radio stopped playing... Smoke started coming out of my frontend.

I stopped, popped the hood, saw flames, and proceeded to start shoveling snow. Thank God for snow! My battery hold-down came loose and my Optima welded itself to my hood. It burnt up my ENTIRE charging system harness, and my power steering system, and part of my brake reservior...

I actually started pulling stuff out of the truck, as it wasn't going out!

End the end, we found enough speaker wire in my buddies Jeep, made new grounds, charged my battery (yellow top) back up. Removed my V-belt. Made sure the brake system was functional. Strong-armed it home for 100 miles with minimal power and steering. Not that bad, really. Almost lost a good truck, though.

It snowed about 2 or 3 inches on us while we fixed it. :rolleyes:

2 weekends ago I lost my trans in naches. lost 4th on friday night before we even hit the trail. by sunday I had lost 2nd and 3rd intermitantly and and trans was getting really hot and leaking. Kept filling it with fluid but it was way to late. Made it off the trail but didnt make it to the trailer 5th blew on pyramid pass and mad a hole in the case. Had to get towed off the top of pyramid pass and met my dad in enumclaw with my trailer. The end of the season naches run is the only run of the year I dont trailer clear to the trailhead:mad: . Do I have to go into any of these events in detail? we might be here all day with my bucket:redneck:

-tire falling off, smacked head, got parts, drove home.
-axle broke, cracked smile, had parts, kept wheeling, drove home.
-tranny lost oil, killed a deer(:redneck: :;for those of you that were there) , got oil, recapped plug, drove home.
-ARB keeper pins broke, looked confused, cross pins chewing up R&P, kept on driving.:D
-U-bolt broke, lost axle pad, pulled into place, tightened other u-bolt, put a bungee cord on for "safety", drove home.
-Fans shorted out, cussed at wiring, hard wired in fans, kept wheeling, drove home.

...do I keep going???:redneck: :haha:
 
Well we have had no major brakes YET i can only cover the one that Grumpy was there for.

We were going over the trail that goes between the main parking area and the power line trg computerail and the red light came on over the water temp gauge, checked water temp and was fine. Told Rhonda to get the book out and find out what the light ment. She yelled at me to shut it off which i thaught was a bad idea being as far as i could tell by gauges and other lights that everything was fine, we got to the power line trail and pulled off and shut it down. After Rhonda read the book we found out the light was for the ignition cutoff in conjunction with the alarm system.

I went to start it and it was dead, no starter on nothing but gauges and some lights. After several phone calls to Reardons and Chrysler we could NOT get a tow out. I had an idea to treat it like an illworking computer. then as i opened the hood Grumpy and his buddies showed up and agreed with to treat it like a bad computer and dissconnected the power for a min and reconnect it and ran for the rest of the day.

That monday we went to Reirdons in monroe and I got yelled at for fixing it that way because when doing that there was NO record of what happened, but they figured out and replaced the bad key.

After all this being said and done, there is one thing that can be learned from it all, off road vehicles do NOT need secutiry systems, electric windows, door lockes, ignition cutoffs, and other such things too keep you from doing off-roading.

No pics but I was headed up to a friend cabin at 130 in the morning on a gravel road just puttin along and I hit a little pothole in the road and my front right spring on my yota snapped right in two at the center pin. Slammed that side of the rig down on to the tire and shoved the axle back into the fender. Didnt have cell service and it was pretty much 10 miles either home or back to the cabin. Looked around and all I had was one motorcycle tie down bout 4ft long. Took the back half of the leaf spring and set it on that kind of bottom upside down spring perch mount thats on yota axles took the strap and ran it front the shackle to the axle so it would keep it tight on the spring and keep the axle from moving back again. Turned around and putted right home.
