I've run into some trouble while trying to build my dual cases. I am using two topshift cases: stock topshift for crawl box, and a 4.7 topshift for the rear. I can only find info on building a crawl box with a forward shift style tcase. What is done differently? The shift rails are completely different.

you will have to shorten the shift rails in the rear case
maybe not they may all ready be short

in my case i had a forward shift case so i had to change the rear to top shift
the center case only has low neutral and high i think
then the rear case has 2 or 4 wheel drive plus low neutral and high

i think as long as rods are centered in the holes you can get by just using stardarded trasfer case shifter

I built mine using Marlin's tech info. It shows a Forward shift case, but explians how to build it with a top shift. I think the only thing I had to do was take one of the rails out.

Also, if the rear case isn't butting up you might have to grind the input shaft a bit to get the clearence (depending on which case you have).

everything is the same as the assembly goes until it comes time to weld that little piece of key stock on the shift forks. you'll see the difference in yours compared to the picture provided with the directions

since the shift fork is internal, i just weld that little piece inside there instead? i guess that's what's throwing me off. and did you guys all use a press to get the 6308 bearing off the main shaft? ..or is there a makeshift way of getting this off without damaging it? i appreciate everyone's help. ive never played around with the guts of a tcase before... so all of this is new to me.

I had a shop press it off. Well worth the $10.

Pull that fork out and weld it. Seriously, read Marlin's teck page. It walks ya right through it with pics :clappy:

the highly detailed page on marlin's site by 4rnrRick is what i've been working off of. It's great, I just got a little confused when it came to the forks. I understand now though. Yea I used to work at toyota of bellevue so i'm gonna run there in the next few days and have a tech press that bearing off. I'm excited to finally start building my junk. once again, thanks for the help.

Thats scary :redneck: lol

wow... i really dont know why that was actually trouble for me. i finished it last week and forgot to thank you guys for your help. it was quite easy. minus the bearing being removed, i'm pretty sure that whole operation should have only taken me an hour. ...well i guess it went well for a first time through, and the first time i've ever dug around in a tcase. FUN!

haha my dad opened the door to the garage and was like... hey, it's time for dinner. i was like.... hold up. i stuck the sticks into the shift rails, shifted into lolo, turned the input spline, and watched the slow moving flanges with a bigass grin haha.
