DUI Distributers

I ran one on a 454 that I built for my jet boat several years ago. At first the cap kept cracking on me. I went through three caps in three weekends. I was running their clear one and it turns out there was some problem with the extrusion process. I ended up just running a solid colored one and that solved the problem (I think they quit selling the clear after that.)

The other problem I had was that oil kept showing up inside the cap. I couldn't figure it out and ended up having to send it back to Davis. The oil was being carried all the way up the shaft and pumped into the cap. They drilled a small hole near the top (just under the base) to let the spill out and back into the engine. Kind've hokey for an expensive dist. but it worked.

They were pretty helpfull through all of that and got things taken care of pretty quick but it still seemed like they should have had stuff like that worked out already.

After that It worked flawless for the rest of the years I had the boat.
 
Give randy in our club a call (silver sammy); I believe he bought a DUI for his 460, and went back to the Ford ign after several issues....but i may be wrong on the brand of aftermarket dist he used....
I have heard a lot of good things about DUI for years...I've also heard about the oil pumping thing as well...

I needed a Marine App (or at least that's what I wanted at the time) and was looking for something with some serious output. Everyone I was running with was mostly using Mallory and I just wanted to be different.
 
Looks to me like GM HEI distributor modified to fit a Ford.....It's a simple system but they also use a module that's somewhat prone to burning out...

A stock chevy HEI with a hot coil and the proper weights/springs can easily be good for 8000rpm.

The design kicks so much ass its the one that DUI copied to put in other makes of engines like AMC and Ford and Dodge and I0ve even seen them on 22rs. This gives these engines the simplicity and reliability of a stock GM HEI.

I didnt understand why you would spend allot of money on a reproduction of OEM? The only diff that I know of is DUI is supposed to come with a hot coil and a fancy module.

A box like a 6AL and a stock gm hei cant be beat. No box is better IMO, less parts to trust.

The majority of parts store modules usually die from overheating. Make sure the proper heat transfer paste is used under it and stop buying them at the local auto parts store. Go to the dealer and it'll last another 200k. :cheer:

I wouldn't really argue with that (I ran the 6AL behind the Davis.) Like I said though, at the time I needed (wanted) the Marine app and that forced me aftermarket anyway.

...and yeah, you're right Chop Shop. DUI's big claim to fame (in thier eyes) is thier coil. In most of their advertising that's what they're trying to beat into the consumers head.
