duramax allison combo

yesterday made several runs with the truck with no problems

got in it for another trip last night, crunk right up then died after about 5-10 seconds... will not start back

no codes or check engine light

only sounds i can hear when i turn the key on is a short pump sound that sounds like a fuel pump . only runs for about 1 second... its the pump right under the drivers door on the inside of the frame rail.

any suggestions? Thanks

have you changed your fuel filter recently? My LB7 was doing something similar, replaced fuel filter and it fixed it.

either a fuel filter or air in the system, loosen the black hex nut on top of the filter housing, prime it several times and see if you are getting air out of the bleeder, once you get a steady stream of fuel tighten it back down and start it up, I would also change the filter just be careful of the sensor on the bottom of the filter, it can be a bitch :****:

not a good thing to know.... being that i am about to go get an 05 tomorrow.

heck any used truck is going to have some maintenance done and will have issues now and then.

you will like the duramax thumb.gif

I generally bleed from the schrader, but loosening the little screw on the filter housing works as well.
Almost all of my experience is with the older dmaxes, but is the screw still plastic, and do they still not have lift pumps? The CP3 is the lift on the older models, all suction based. Ours would get air in it some time and just die. I'd rebleed and voila, fixed. I put sealer on that plastic bleed screw and problems stopped. they sell a stainless bleed screw if that's what it is.

Thats good to know, where do you get the Stainless screw, the plastic one is about shot, have to use a wrench on it now, screwdriver slot is gone

anyclue where to get the stainless screw?

I agree, I love mine, just wish it had a straight axle front (heavy pulling tire wear) I will probably add airbags to help with it, 130k on mine and never missed a beat

i put the bags on mine, made a big difference. love the duramax

I have an 05 five I had trouble with fuel filter one time it went dead going down the road but it had probably 12000 miles on filter. Have you thought about the batteries, I had to change mine about this time last year and your average battery charger doesnt have the power to jump one off. I would definately look at that after the filter.

Ironic you mention that, I thought I was having a pump issue with mine, it would turn over quick but loose power starting, tried jumping it off and didn't have a good set of cables, put a new battery in and have never had a minutes problem, cranking amps is a must on any diesel :driving:

thanks guys you hit the nail on the head

tried to prime filter when i got home and it was leaking

bought a new filter and put it on, primed it and it started and ran good. havent drove it very far but it idled fine and reved fine

hey daniel joe here just wanted to let you know mine done the same thing. there is some kind of plastic cap under the filter housing that had cracked or some bullshit like that every once in a while if i parked the driver side of the truck kinda down hill it would get air in the system and it would'nt run but i could loosen the screw and pump it two or three times and it would fire right up any way took it back to the dealership for the next service and they found the problem when they took the filter off.

i haven't had a problem since!!!!!!!!

glad to see you found the problem!!!!

did you get the steering linkage fixed!!!!!!
