E-brake solutions... line locks?

Talk to me about your e-brake/parking brake/line locks... what have you. I'm sick and tired of having to shut my rig off and leave it in gear every time I want to get out of it. Here's my experience with stock Jeep e-brakes: they suck.

What's the solution? Are linelocks an "acceptable" form of a parking brake of sorts? I won't be competing, but I would like to be SAFE and I know some clubs actually require a physical e-brake, so I'm not sure if I want to go this route or not. My thoughts would be to have three locks, one per front tire and one for the rear axle.

What about manual valves a'la swagelock or something similar? Depress the pedal, turn the valve closed, let up. Obviously this would eliminate the problem of having the linelock fail if it loses electricity. Seems like maybe a better solution, but are there valves available that will hold up and not leak down over time? It would be more complicated plumbing the valve into somewhere it was reachable from the driver's seat, but I can't see it being too much more complex than the re-working that would have to be done for electric linelocks anyway.

Thoughts? What are you running... what do you like about it? What do you not like about it? And no, a stick between the brake pedal and the driver's seat doesn't qualify as an e-brake (not for me at least). :redneck:

have you looked into a cable type driveline e brake like the ones for rovers and such? just throwing that out there, my ebrake barely works :flipoff:

I've seen that system used on GaryTJ's rig. Works pretty well.

But it isn't an "overnight" e-brake as it will bleed off over time.

i RUN tripple line locks and love em. But I don't trust them for overnight/long periods of time...

not a true mechanical e brake but it works good, i saw them on dump and fuel delivery trucks. they set it when sitting still and needing the engine ran to operate the hydraulics. i figure if it will hold them it will hold my rig. after two years i still like it.

i got mine at six robles in everett they had it in stock. wasnt cheap.

I've run the Jamar manual line locks (one front, one rear) for quite a few years and they've treated me well. Occasionally the knobs have gotten a little sticky with mud/water exposure but they have never leaked and don't bleed off. I'm running an auto trans so I figure these locks combined with the parking pawl are a fairly safe setup.

Check JC Whitney's prices, I don't think they want nearly as much as Poly
Performance wants for them.

I have one just like the Jamar one that I decided not to install. Are you still looking for one Matt?

If you're interested, I'll dig it out and get some more info on it.

Would be better to go one per REAR wheel, and one for the front, wouldn't it? Front digs, ya know... That's what I have planned

Yes yes, that's true... I can't do front digs yet, have to start saving my pennies for a 300 and a chev 60 for the front later down the road, but I guess it would be nice not to have to re-plumb the brakes.
