August 8th, 2006 Waycrazy and I (Ceg) headed out from Waycrazy's house in Tieton to French Canyon. It was just down the road from his place.

The trail started right after the Reservoir. We had to open and closes a few gates a long the way. Here we are coming up on the first gate.

We had to cross the dry creek a few times. This is the first place we found any water. Waycrazy's dog needed a drink. The hill behind my rig would be fun to climb with snow on the ground. It is steeper than it looks.

Here I am guessing the trail and creek bed are the same?

Here is another creek crossing.

The trail took off two different ways. We took the high trail. We climbed up the trail and stopped for a look down at the canyon.

This was a nice run with some cool things to see.

We are going to try to do a run or two in the colder months.

Hmm never heard of French Canyon...

Is it a designated ORV area? Private land with open access, or you got permission? Just open range land?

Looks like good mild wheeling with no crowds and good camping potential...

This area we ran is under 3 different agencies.

1. Up on top to the south is the DNR Ahtanum Multiple Use Area. Miles of trails and roads to ride quads.

2. North of the Ahtanum to Hwy-12 is ran by the forest Service. You can camp in this section. You can come up from Windy Point from Hwy-12. This place is packed during hunting season.

3. The lower area on the east is run by the Dept. of Wildlife. French Canyon and Hatton Road.

A lot of miles but not enough to get tired of wheelin'. There is never enough time or money. I will be there to wheel with you this weekend for sure! :super:
