I am a quirky or oddball car kind of guy. I once daily drove my Studebaker Station Wagon for years on end. That being said, I have an opportunity to pick up quite possibly the quirkiest motorhome ever created.

Yes, that is a Lincoln Mark VII front on that extremely huge nose. I have a big nose too, so maybe its a match made in heaven. I really wanted to pick up a big block 70's Travco, but this jewel kind of showed up in a search. It has 18,000 miles on a 460/C6 combo with a dana 60 rear end. Working 4.0 Onan Genset, two top mounted A/C's with heat strips. All the wood had rotted and now is replaced. It does need floor covering and the furniture recovered.

Here is my problem. There is minimal information on these guys anywhere. I have found where adding an electric fan is a good idea and forcing air from the bottom side of the engine compartment through a duct will help with heat in the engine bay. Besides that, it is a freaking crap shoot. They range in asking price from $8000 up to 20 plus. This particular unit is priced at $1500.

I guess I am just trying to find any information on these motorhomes and have searched all I know to search. Anyone know of anywhere that has obscure motorhome info?

1500? I'd jump all over that. I don't know anything about them but I think it looks cool as hell.

I just read somewhere that if you account for inflation, they would cost $250,000 brand new today. loller.gif

Well, I am robbing the till for the night and gonna go and take a gander in the am. I miss my 40 ft Beaver, but this bitch might suffice as my next motorhome extravaganza. Funny enough, both had 18k on them when I went a lookin'.

A/C, bed, shower and a potty is all I need. Doubling as a second tow rig would be nice as well. I am going to have to drop for some tires in the morning or I won't make it to Chatanooga. Thank you Choccolocco for the chunking.

That is cool. My dad has the Travco. 1976. Dodge 440. New tires. Completely remodeled 15 years ago. Got pics somewhere. He uses it as a hunting cabin, did not move last year at all.

How much would a scrap yard give you for it? For $1500 sounds like I would take a chance if I wanted one. If it was total junk scrap it.

If you have neighbors I bet they will love you if you bring it home.

I hate anything with a tag axle, but for $1500 I'd go for it. If you plan to tow with it, make sure the frame in back of the tag is strong enough to do it. They added the tag to make up for the fact the rear axle and frame weren't stout enough for the weight of the motorhome, let alone the added strain of towing. I was a RV tech for 5 years ('01-06) and used to see a lot of tag axles. Not so much these days.

Re:

The interior walls and roof needed to be done. It was worth the money for a local. Genset low mileage 460/c6 and two air conditioners. For me, I hated to do it but had to pass. It would have been a cool place shuttle look a like. Back to looking for Travcos.

Take a look at old Superior motorhomes too. Steel frame and galvanized steel roof and outside wall. Great old motorhomes. I wish I still had mine. Gas mileage sucked, but in that era they all did. Mine had a Dodge 413 truck motor and was indestructible. Had a round porthole in the door. Miss that old girl.

I know where there is one of these in Florida. It has not moved in 20 years I bet. I have always wondered what it was. Like the OP I like quirky oddball things and have always wondered what it would take to get the one I know of on the road.
