I've been trying to figure out how to get tail lights to work on a 1985 toyota pickup extended bed. I've changed out all of the bulbs and all of the fuses under the dash and under the hood, and the only lights that don't work are the reverse lights and the tail lights for when my headlights are on. The brake lights still work and so do the turn signals, I just can't figure out how to get those tail lights and reverse lights to work. Anyone know how I can fix this or what the next step should be? Thanks a lot in advance guys, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Turn the light switch on and see if theres power to the sockets with a volt meter. Do the fronts come on?

Check the wire on the tranny for the reverse switch.

Clean it out with some electronics cleaner, or brake clean or something. Get a little scrubbing action in there too.

Update:

I did the truck swap today and got the new truck I was swapping for. Ok so heres the deal, my headlights, turn signals, and brake lights all work. Tail lights don't work, dash lights don't work, marker lights don't work, and reverse lights don't work. The cab light does work, and thats about it. I have no idea where to start in order to fix all these lights, but rightn ow I can't drive the truck at night time. Any idea on where to begin? Thanks.

.. start with looking for the chassis ground, chassis/body to engine, lights hate not having that..

then check for 12v at the light sockets and work your way up to the the cab connector, fusebox, is there power for those at the fuses? if so, then backtrack and see where it got cut off. im in covington, if you cant find it run over here ill nail it..

God I need this problem fixed by today so I can start driving it and taking it to shops in order to get stuff built for it. All the fuses are new, all the bulbs are new, and I just can't figure this **** out. God I hate this  .

IIRC, there's a relay that powers both the dash and taillights located in the driver side kick panel. Check that and make sure it's good.

or stop chasin ***** when your off work, and your own tail when your trying to figure it out, and just drive it here, drop it off, and ill be glad to charge you just under "a lot of money" as you stated :haha:

Im thinking about heading down that way tomorrow to my Dads possibly, PM me a number to call you at and I can see if I can swing by and look at it, if you want that is. Im not sure what time however, so Im mainly thinking if your day is wide open and your gonna be home type deal.

I didnt say I would fix it, I said I would look at it, haha.

*looks at truck*
"yup, they dont work" :flipoff:

Actually, I kinda half owe him a trip down there, I was supposed to go look at his old truck for something and couldnt make it since my car flaked out on me and my truck was dead, but its been running again now for a while, so Im good to go.

Anyway, if you want me to come see if I can figure anything out, I can see what I can do.
