over there
So I took my toyota in for emissions and it failed on the cruise hydrocarbons part. I think the guy said it was 19 ppm too high. What do I need to look at to fix it?

87 22r carbed.

do the basics
A thorough tune-up will include:

Replacing the air filter
Install new spark plugs and replace spark plug wires
install a new distributor cap
install a new rotor
PCV valve replaced, if clogged

Maybe check timing?

or go to shucks and buy the **** that guarantees you to pass (it's with the motor honey and stuff like that)

but im sure that was no help to you :Cracked:

Got the cap, rotor, wires, and plugs covered. As well as the timing, what about carb adjustments? Could it be running rich or lean? I'll try the air filter as well.

hydrocarbons are unburnt fuel.
If you have GOOD ignition parts OEM or NGK, and no misfires, check the AAP diaphram, make sure there is no fuel in it. other than that, best thing you can do is stick a new cat in it if the current cat is more than about 4 or 5 years old.

Make sure your charcoal canisters aren't saturated too.

HC Cruise failure I'd start with double check timing, vacuum advance, valve adjustment... since you've covered the basic tune parts. HC failure means SOMETHING is happening to cause the fuel that's being introduced to NOT be fully combusted.

incomplete combustion is CO.
Unburnt fuel is HC.

A nice new cat will help with both ;)

or u can have the cat i took off my truck that passed emmisions with FLYING colors since it's a 83 and i no longer have to pass emmissions

WAIT WAIT run ur truck at the highest possible idle they allow without going over it and you should pass..... thats what i do :D 1,050 rpm and 1,100 is the max

Already ran high rpm it was like 1150 or something like that. Took 15 mins and the guy still had to bypass the computer cause it won't idle down.

I might take you up on that cat too. I don't know if the one I have is crap or not. Can't verify the age either.

might wanna check ur linkage sounds like it's bent thats what mine did so i bent it back and put a chevy throttle return spring onto it and it always idles down now and the cat is urs if u want it... it is just sitting there waiting to do something lol
