Evans Creek - SAT 02/02

A few of us headed up to Evans today...the snow is deeper than I have ever seen :awesomework: We unloaded the rigs by the Y just after the bridge & headed up. The road was untouched, so we were breaking trail just to get to the lower 311 parking lot. We attempted to take the road up to the day park, but the snow was swallowing up 42's...headed up 311 a bit, but ran out of daylight.

Cold, deep & lots of skinny pedal :cool:

Wow, you aint kidding on how much snow is up there. The only thing that could have made the day any better is if you were rollin in the new rig.:D
 
Yeah we were up at Elbe today and lots of snow there too. Not quite as much as it looks like Evans had, but I was post holing up to my crotch when I walked off the trail.
 
Ive been going to Evans for 12 years and have never seen this much snow. We couldnt make it to the 2nd parking lot! Probably 6-8 feet deep at the campground!

HAHA, that's what I was saying on the other thread. At 4000' you won't even be able to walk through the snow unless you've got snow shoes. Our Chalet is at 2000' and the snow at that level is 2-3' deep.

Looks like fun anyway :)

I can't image what the snow would be like at the top of 520 or at the rock slide crossing. Even the top of upper 311 has to be 8-10' deep if you're out in the open.

Progress was much easier once we started into the trees...I am sure that the upper section of 311 would be a winch fest :eeek: We winched to the top of 311 a few years back (thinking that the road would be down hill & much easier than turning around) Man were we wrong...we were getting stuck going down hill :mad: On that day, it took us approximately 14 hours to just run the lower/upper 311! I can only imagine what it would be like now.
 
We turned around on the hill were the trail splits...just before the first look out. It would take some serious winching to reach the upper 311 look out...and then you would still have to break trail back down the road to reach the parking lot :eeek:

I suppose you could always turn around & double back down the trail, but where's the fun in that :D
