Last time I used a cone filter we made a shroud for it to stop it from getting splashed by mud and rain.

On the ftoy I don't have room for a shroud. Anyone running there airfilter fully exposed to the elements? other than getting grimy and dirty any issues with water getting through?

:hi: Run it like i do!!!!! the filter is right above the passengers feet!!!!:awesomework: :awesomework: :awesomework: :beer: :kiss:

Used to run it in the engine compartment right above the passenger front tire, no shroud, no issues.

No room to do it Bill. I tried to figure out a good way to get it there but with the shocks and EFI stuff I got no room for the airpipe to get it back to the dash area.

I've been running mine exposed above the drivers tire with an outerwear and have had no problems.:awesomework:

Pretty much where mine has to go, its tucked way in and shouldn't get any real direct spray from the tire but its sticking right out fully exposed.

I'll buy the prefilter. Thanks. :beer:

High and dry and as far back as possible i guess.

I had an open filter in the stock toyota location and it drank alot of water a few times.:eeek:

Mine sits just above the passenger tire. Its tucked in just a bit so the mud doesnt hit it directly. I have inner fenders and I haven't had any issues at all.

if its exposed, and water hits it.. waters getting in.. now how much damage is being done, no one would know with out a tear down of the motor.. mud and water hitting it isnt good.. I love the resposes "No problem yet" , just excessive wear on cylinder walls :haha: but I'm sure if enough people respond you will take the answer you like.. thats what I do.. so here you are

NO PROBLEM... done it for years :haha:

Nope I haven't had any problems with it.. it was mounted in the same spot for a few months before I ran the rod bearings out of it... I rebuilt the engine and funny but the cylinder walls were fine, still had the crosshatch pattern to them. Maybe all that dirt and grime took out my bearings. :rolleyes:

I do see your point though, mine is tucked out of the way enough it doesn't see direct mud and water. I ran it through a mud bog a few months ago and came out with a few small pieces of mud on it so I'm not worried about it. Deep water crossings or driving in rain would be another story though.... :;

i run my filter out in the open no problems its a little lower then i would like but it seems to work. next to the passenger tire.
