looking at 9's for next year. The budget is only going to allow junkyard 3rds. Looking on Randy's site I didn't see reverse rotation gears sets for the front. What are the options?

I might be wrong but, only high pinions need reverse rotation gears. that way they are not driving on the coast side of the gear. If you do a junkyard 3rd, all are going to be low pinion right? :dunno:

unfortunately they are going to be low pinion. front and rear

won't the front be counter rotating in a low pinion install?

Nope you got that all wrong. If you flip a standard rotation upside down the it will counter rotate. Running a LP 9" in the front will only run the pinion on the coast side of the gears. That is really fine to do in a mid to low power rig. You won't have any problems there.

All 9" front applications are custom. There is no such thing as an OEM 9" front axle.

Thanks Nolan,
I was aware of the custom front. It's going to be expensive but worth it.

next question
what unit bearing inner c's can I cut off of a JY axle for 3" tube?

Dont go to all of the trouble to build a hybrid 9" front axle and put D44 stuff up there. The work is the same, the cost will be a bit more, but used C's and knuckles are out there. Even if you have to use 30 spline stuff in the beginning, you are wasting time with a D44/9"

609 then. I'm restricted on turning by the stock box requirement. I can't see buying Spiders tube ends. That's why I was looking for JY ends.

If your budget is truly as restricted as you say it is just running a stock d60 front axle is going to be WAY cheaper than building a 609 or even a 449.

agreed, I keep going back to the spider housing for the clearance. I'm restricted to 35's. Being cheap in the short run probably isn't the way to go on this.

If you're restricted to 35's and your budget is super limited, I'd just run a d44 for the time being until you can afford more. The custom 9" / 609 is way overkill for that tire anyway.

NO it's not!!

I'd love to have shaved 14's with rock shafts and spider knuckles to motivate my 35's

Whatever ... just remember this: When building you need to keep everything super light-duty and cheap and easy to replace or super heavy-duty and expensive with components that will not break so you don't have to replace them. Pick one school and stick with it. Anywhere between you are just going to regret not going all the way.

That's my $0.02.

my first rig - picked middle of the road - not a good choice

sold that rig and built up a yota - cheap and easy to replace - light. Well things aren't so cheap the 4-5th or 12th time you replace them and being an expert in tearing apart your rig is one field that I am tired of
