Does anyone know how to find out what gears you have in your differential? I bought a toyota and want to find out the gear ratio on it. Can you turn the driveline and count the rotations? How would you translate that to a ratio?

Is it stock? What year?

The truck was an 83 pickup with the 22r and manual trans but I got it and it had 42" swampers on it so I think the ratio might have gotten changed at some time :) It was a beat wheeler so I took it apart and am doing the SAS swap on a 86 4runner I bought.

He will get you close. Auto or stick? Motor? Stock?

Toy thirds can not always be identified from the outside. The numbers on the side of the ring gear are the only thing that is a sure thing for identifying the ratio.

Thank you very much, this will help me alot! Ill try it tonight.

I am new to wheeling and will start a garage thread on my ride soon.
Currently I have a 86 4runner
I have this stuff to install off my parts rig:
dual transfer cases
high steer
toyota rears in front
wagoneer springs in back
Sky Manufacturing SAS front spring mount
Sky front and rear diff. trusses
Sky rear shock mounts
I will be rebuilding the 22re this weekend
sold my 42" swampers and am going to buy new 36" irocs

i guess i should just start a garage thread before I go into too much detail here.

No problem. I just got lucky with a google search.:D It sounds like an awsome project, I wish you all the best.

These guys on here are a wealth of knowledge, and love to help.:awesomework:
