So while giving the rig a once over after their the weekends ride, we noticed a puddle of oil on the ground. Found the header wrap soaked in power steering fluid. I cranked up the truck to burn off the oil. A bit later I looked in the shop and saw orange flames and darted towards an extinguisher to put it out while camera man BJ grabbed the shot. Thanks Zeb for the Dr Pepper and Josh for grabbing at wires while I sprayed.
Always have an extinguisher handy!

I went with coldfires on the new one. I figured it was worth a little extra coin for them.

I've been looking at them, but powder is all I had at the time. I'm still tasting it even while drinking Makers n Coke :puke:

Not a fan of header wrap for that reason. Seen quite a few drag cars burn because of it.
I wrapped mine to prevent fire. I had a pcv valve pop out on the first race hill at superlift last october and everytime I stabbed the gas I would get a small flame that safety crew kept stopping me for. Adams old EOR buggy had wrap on his headers and I never seen his flame up even after soaking them with tranny fluid. They would smoke like a bitch for an hour though. I'm sure if the wrap ever caught it would be worse but the flash point has got to be MUCH lower.

I know this is an oldervthread but I have a question regarding the wrap. Has anyone ever wrapped a muffler? Mine is really tight between the skid and body. Makes my feet and ass hot not to mention the trans. Too tight for a thin heat shield to be added. Thought about wrapping the whole things. Thought, opinions??

My muffler is wrapped on the Solo Buggy to protect the shifter cable that runs beside it. B&M says to shield the heat source and NOT to insulate the cable.

I had a tranny cooler line burst and soak my wrapped muffler. Never caught fire but damn it almost killed me and the lady with smoke.

Re:

Pass side flowmaster is wrapped on my buggy b/c the battery is in that area and my tranny lines, never had any issues and seems to keep the heat down in that area

Thanks guys. Any input on how to clamp it on the finished side? Never used wrap before but looks like it has clamps with it. But only large enough for pipe. Unless you are going to tell me to start and stop on the pipe and not on the muffler itself??

So, i had to remove the wrap to weld my header back together... the collector broke off on the last ride.
I painted the header with VHT paint with several coat. I has hoping it would keep the heat down but the damn thing is hot... the wrap really worked. Im going to re-wrap the header, and i actually thought about wrapping the whole exhaust since it runs pretty close to the floorboard.

As for clamping, i saw these at HF and thought.... hmmm perfect...

Anywho.... as long as you dont get it soaked in oil or flammable liquid, i don't see an issue using the wrap.

Nice harbor freight idea. I will grab some tomorrow. Thanks a lot

My exhaust is wrapped from the collectors back....mufflers included. Helps keep my feet and ass a little cooler. :dblthumb:
