I know where a truck is that has been flooded. The kid got caught trying to cross a flooded road and the truck got swept into a guardrail. Water receded and insurance gave them money to fix the truck which is now for sale. 2005 Duramax ext. cab with a service bed. 75K miles. I have flooded plenty of four wheelers so I know what to expect with them, but what about the motor in the truck? Is it shot or do you just rebuild the motor flush the transmission buy a new computer and roll with it? ? :dunno: Would love to buy it on the cheap and swap into a square body dually.

Send Sting on here a PM. He's the Duramax dude, especially when it comes to swaps. He's the dude with the Cadillac Buggy from the Hardline ride.

If u are buying it for an engine/trans. swap into something else, and can get it really cheap, then go for it. definitely wouldn't try to use the donor body for anything, will have all sorts of nightmare snafus from now on. Thorough flush and new bearings to engine, same to trans. probably new ecm, possibly turbo. Got to get it really CHEAP. Service bed is a plus, can be sold or reused. thumb.gif

I probably ought to delete the part about swapping into a square body. I know good and well if I got the thing to running for cheap, I would just drive it :rolf:

I'm probably not going to be able to get it cheap enough to do all that and put it in donor. One of you guys probably could but I have trouble changing my blinker fluid and battery bearings so a motor swap is out of the question. After I paid for the truck, fixing the motor and the recipient truck I would be just as well to buy a newer truck that is not a mut. Would be cool to have a rat rod 3+3 square body dually with a duramax though!! I just have to see exactly how cheap I can buy it.

I own a flood truck daily driver. Mine was a college kid who couldn't make the payments anymore so he "left it in neutral" when he was backing his boat down into the water.

Left it there for more than 24hrs before a "tow truck" could get to him.

In my case the fill port on the valve cover was above water level. It fried the starter and all electronics that were submerged. At the time I really couldn't afford a new let alone preowned diesel so I jumped on it.

Yes it was super cheap and I got into a truck that buddies were paying $30k for. I had to rebuild her, massage her, love on her, bypass some things, as well as deal with little quirky things. FOREVER. . . . . Lol

So my point is, yes I'm driving a nice truck but I saved money on the front end but will pay for it on the back end. Forever my title says flood damage. I lose an automatic $15k or so of value just based on that statement on my "blue" title

So if you are fine with that, rock it out. I had a trans, front and rear diff and tcase full on milk shake fluid. Tons of work and flushing out.

I'll never be able to sell it as a clean trade in. Which sucks because after all the work I have done, it's in better shape than most trucks I have seen for sale, including here, along with mileage like yours.

I wouldn't buy another one and do what I have done. Good luck

Case Closed, Don't want the truck.. **MODERATOR PLEASE DELETE**
Oh wait this is Hardline, threads never get deleted, only derailed. See how far this thread can be derailed without going to a 35% Thread. What does that mean anyway?

Lightbndr, I'm suprised you haven't had to replace the transmission if it is an automatic. Water intrusion in any one that I have seen always equals death. The glue that holds the clutch friction material on is water based, so when it gets water on them it ends up releasing the fibers and wearing down, and eventually not holding gears.

He's very very very gentle with it.....
Treats it like a virgin every time he gets in it....wait...that might not be a good euphemism for some of you guys. Lol

No way in hell I'd own a flood truck, glad you opted against it! Too many electronics on vehicles nowadays to deal with flooded ****. Much different than a flooded atv lol. I drowned my old Honda Rubicon out several times without even changing the oil and it would keep on ticking lol.

Had a good friend bought an ext cab 03 or 04 duramax flood vehicle with low miles and he had a helluva time always chasing problems with it and sold it about a year after he bought it. I'm just not into paying money for a constant headache. :****:

I built the trans 5 years ago. I put it in the air and ran pure diesel fuel in the diffs and tcase in 4hi for about 5 minutes. Then drained and filled with fresh fluid. Zero probs since that and a trans build.

My only little piddlies are no remote locks and no airbags. Can be fixed with module replacement but who needs that other than guys like joho ?

Commentary on my driving?? Saved your ass from killer death wobble in my dodge!!
Remote locks are good for opening the door for the B who is pushing your buggy to load the groceries in the back seat.
:stir:

Dang

I even gave $20 for a loaf of bread and mustard, just to keep the peace so your crabby ass would cheer up. Lol

Thank God Shawn fed me right the rest of the trip. Lol

I didn't expect this to derail this direction but why don't LightBndr and Joho join Tony and JD and use this as your own little bromance thread.

EDIT: I can't even give folks a hard time on here without feeling bad. I hate being so sensitive towards others feelings. :dunno:

Haha! Feelings. I ain't got none, your not offending me!!
LightBnDr on the other hand...he's a sensitive caring type.
