so i have an 89 f150 with a 302 and a AOD tranny, 8.8 31spline rear with full detroit and 3.54's gears. Turning 33x13.5 LTB's. My rig weighs right around 6000lbs.
there has been times where the skinny pedal has been used to get over some stuff. Theres also times that my rig gets to hopping a little bit. I havent had any issues thus far but dont really want to ether. Im thinking about stepping up to 35's at some point and am wondering if i should be worried about the 8.8 holding up?

I beat the piss out of my 8.8 in the TJ. But it is only 4420 and running a 4 cyl.

Watch out for the ring gear coming off the carrier though. It has happened many a time with a detroit/arb.

I ran 38.5 TSLs 4.56 and an ARB it held up fine. I welded the axle tubes in and I had a 4-link with sime extra trussing the only issue I had was I spun the ARB washer pulling the air line a part but that was a quick fix.

edit: it was in a Jeep with a Healthy 4.2L 5 speed.

got a buddy who runs 38.5 x14 boggers with a TBI 360, full detroit, he broke 2 stock shafts in like 5-6 years.. he just threw in dutchmans, so we'll see how they hold up.

Oh ya, its a jeep with full cage.

And it is still being beat, and holding up :awesomework:

No such thing. :haha:

I would not trust an 8.8 at all in a fullsize rig. even a ford. do not waste your time with that 1/2 ton crap sell the locker to one of these jeepin fags and pick up a Sterling 10.5 rear and a solid axle for the front.
