Ford Uni-Bearings???

I had mine redrilled 8 on 6.5" just to make it easier to find rims...cost is minor.

Spidertrax offers these bearings in other configs as well...5, 6 and 8 lug.

Yes this is why I was asking wasn't sure if they had always been the metric BP or not. Is it cheaper to to just buy some used ones an dhave them redrilled or once all that is done is SpiderTrax close in cost?

It was cheaper for me to buy them through Spidertrax than it was to get stock replacements from our normal parts supplier, and they were 35 spline and redrilled for the pattern I wanted.

Not worth using IMO.....They don't hold up to the SD's so why use them elsewhere....Most guys replace a few of em before they spend the dough on the dynatrac conversion.....

Huh, really?

I've been running the used set I installed about 6+ years ago when it was still a daily driver. But then again I have a wimpy little V8, :rb: 39" red krawlers and 160:1 crawl ratio...

But I don't wheel so what would I know about them :awesomework:

Don't really need quality stuff when it gets trailered to the trail I guess......

Play nice kids. This isn't the Chatter, it's 4x4 Talk.

Both your points are taken. Jobless feels used parts work well, Jeepermc doesn't. You guys want to throw poop, please do it in the Chatter. If you feel I'm bein' a little pre-emptive, well that's ok too.

edit - OK, both you have read each other's posts, and neither is on topic, so I'm pulling them.

Nothing to do with "used parts" just the Ford unit bearings in general.

Re-read my post, I clearly stated that they (Ford unit bearings) were installed when my Jeep was still a daily driver.

What kind of experience do you have with them on a Jeep or other wheeling rig?

Yep, I'd agree, take them off your Superduty, they won't hold up... BUT then put them on your trail rig. There's a big difference between a 4,000lb trail rig and a 7,000lb crewcab with a diesel in it.

Exactly. They're marginally sufficient in a SD, but work in lighter rigs.

And if your taking them off your SD give them to me for my TR. Then I'll save a little more money. Good god this doesn't need to be a pissing match. I wanted to know this info so I can start gathering the parts I needed for my axles. And yes I am going to run the uni-bearings in the front.

Brad were did you get yours redrilled at?

I'd still rather have serviceable bearings and a spindle that are cheaper to buy and most likely last longer . But that's what mine came with. I've seen unit bearings come apart from a busted axle shaft and leave ya stranded. Jeep...not Ford. I would guess the Ford Uni's hold up better than the jeep ones but i'd still rather have regular bearings.

Okay now with all that being said I gots to ask, Do you even have any experiance wth the FORD UNI-BEARINGS? Or is this opinion based on the Jeep ones?

Only on Fords.......I've seen plenty of ford bearings worn out, replaced a few, and would swap to the dynatrac kit if I had a super duty....One of the major reasons I bought a 97 f-350 was to not have fords' unit bearings on my truck...
The major manufacturers use unit bearings to save a buck....not because they are better.

I guess the Ford bearings work fine for wheelers, but you'll never find unit bearings on anything I own..... Only my opinion....But based in experience nevertheless....You won't find me voicing my opinion on something I've had zero experience with. Less than the next guy with a particular part...Maybe....but I've been around long enough to have a pretty good idea what I'm doing.....
