Fuel cell myth busting

I'm workin on a rig here and guy wants to run an tci tank that has top feed ports and a wallboro pickup I it (just a screen basically) he wants to run an e2000 pump mounted on frame...now I have always tried to run an inline pump that fed from bottom of cell basically gravity feeding to the pump... He swears it will be ok...what says hardline? Will this pump last a while? It's an 88 yota Pickuo with 22re will be street driving and wheelin

Am I worrying. Too much?

That's how mines setup.....except a Walbro gsl342.

Pump mounted lower than tank bottom.

While I am on my second pump I replace the first one because I accidentally ran the cell dry and anytime after that the pump made weird noises. it worked fine but the noises were enough to make me change it and put it to spare pump Duty in the toolbox.

Been like this I guess for 3-ish years? And I ride alot...

Yup.....but obviously has the tubes inside the tank that drop to the bottom.

Pretty standard RCI cell ....long/skinny

The top feed has a pickup tube that goes to the bottom. I installed a hose with a weight so it would swing when crawling.
Top feed hose down and make a loop before the prefilter then pump (e2000) then post filter to engine. Running this setup since 2002

I have a 100 gallon tank in the bed of my dually... It feeds out the top n down to the factory pump on the frame rail.....

The only time it matters where the tank feeds the pump from is when ur sucking air.... Top feed is harder to prime... Has been no issue whatsoever for me tho.

Speaking of fuel cells, I still cant figure out how the filler plates work. I know they bolt on but how the heck do you get your hand in the tank to fasten the bolts?

My ring has the bolts tac welded.

Something like this. The bolts come up from the bottom but the plate itself would have to go on top of the tank. And the fill neck looks way too small to get your fingers in. :dunno:

The fill port is a three piece fill neck. undo all the top bolts, take off the plastic washers, and pull the metal fill neck off. The bolts are all connected to a backing plate inside the tank that looks a bit like a C, push the bolts down and then fish the C out of there and you'll have full access to the tank.

If it's a newer rci 2161 then the top fittings are actually removable which make this a VERY easy mod to do. I used two walboro pickups in my tank and plumbed them with hard lines. O'Reillys sold some quick disconnect fuel line fittings that made this really easy to do. I ended up using a T fitting to split it into two directions.

I ran a fuel pump and filter combo on the side of the fuel cell mount here is a picture

They're better pushers than pullers.

No way to get it below the tank?

Mine are splined into a ring with a break in it to get it in. At that point you have the whole hole to get your hand in. Your holes are most likely going to have enough misalignment to hold the ring in on its own. (Mine did). It holds itself up at that point.

I drew fuel from the top of my tank for a long time. The fuel pump made an amazing hum and I was only able to use about 2/3 of the tank before it would start sucking air. So I made my own pickup. It works great and I'm able to use about 95% of the fuel in the tank. Fuel pump still sounds like ****, but its due to the cheap ass pump I'm using, Airtrex E8248

Dont know why he needs a 95 psi pump on a motor that only requires about 30psi. I have ran this summit 45 psi pump on several vehicles. Works great with a 22re no need for an aftermarket pressure regulator or anything. https://m.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g3138
