So after doing some pretty steep drops/and steep climbs last weekend my fuel pump decided it wanted to start cavatating(sp) again (2nd time in the last couple months) and I am getting tired of it. Right now I have a carter pump (frame rail mount) thats pretty big and sits up in the belly of my rig. Now I know due to the location thats part of the problem but due to the size I am stuck where it sits.

So I want to run a bullet style pump back near the tank which should fix the problem. The fuel system I am running requires a max of 20psi to run it (op is typicaly 12-14psi). But I can run a higher pressure pump (40-50psi) without affecting the system.

So my question is whats out there for a pump? Also I know I will want a pre-filter but one that does not use hose rubber line...

mike on the ford system they have a fuel accumulator in line between the tank mounted LP pump and the framerail mounted HP pump. that might help your problem...it comes with HP fuel fitting on both inlets and outlets.

In your shoes, I would probly fab up an in-tank setup and drop it in from the top, and run a factory dime-a-dozen TBI pump.

Or *possibly* run the feed line from the bottom of the tank so it gravity feeds the pump... But that one kinda scares me a little...

With how my tank is built---not going to happen plus I work on Gm's too much to not trust an in tank pump :;

You havn't seen how my tank is made (outlet on the bottom side )

My answer: Make it a breeze to change out and carry spares. Hell, they're little :D

So if your outlet is on the bottom, then it already gravity feeds *except* on steep inclines? Well **** :D Another vote for internal then :D

carter P5000

the mopar one (i have the number at home) I have an extra one that you can test with, but I want to back.

I think its just the pump and pump location. its a 5 or 6 big vane pump.

I am pretty confident that what I have in mind will fix my problem....

NAPA 5001 inline bullet style and works great with TBI systems. I am running one of those cheap clear plastic 3/8"s filters in front of it.

daam now I gotta look it up :flipoff: , not sur eoff hand but it is the pump that Affordable fuel injection uses on all thier TBI set ups.

Mike,I use a masters E2000.its for an 89 F150 or something.little spendy at 90 bucks but it feeds my TBI set up no problem.rated to 60 psi or close to it.

x2

But mine is feeding a carb...

There is an adjustable fuel pressure regulator right before the carb that I keep at 3psi on the trails...and 7psi on street.
