Back to the topic at hand...I would recommend not selecting a cherokee for your first wheeler.Any Cj/wrangler type jeep is a good place to start.My advice though would be to start with a solid axle toyota, I wish I started there simply because you can run bigger tires for cheaper (think Longfields).As far width goes its a matter of personal preference and finding what works, but it seems like around 62-64" wms-wms works well for a lot of rigs. Width (and wheelbase also) are always a tradeoff, sometimes being small helps and sometimes bigger is better.
