Mine is 2wd. At the time I didn't want to deal with a transfer case and front driven axle for maintenance reasons. To do it again I'd go 4x4; there has been a few times I wish I had it. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is boat launches. A steep, slick launch can demand low range and 4x4.
