So whats the proffered method for doing windows with a seal?

I have always put the seal to the body and then roll the glass (via thin string) into the seal.

is there any other way? i tried with pry bars when i was 16 didnt work to good haha...

I have always done the opposite, soaped up string in the body groove with the gasket on the glass, get an assistant to hold glass in place while you pull string from inside, making sure helper is not putting to much pressure on glass or it is to hard to roll the seal.

Thats how I have done it. I can't figure out how you can get the seal with sealer to seal properly against the body with the way I mentioned.

you need some non hardening sealer, 3M 8509 is what i used to use, between the gasket and the body just fill it in so its just below the trim clips.then you can run an acid brush around it and get it good and in there! .also pry gently back on the gasket at the clip locations and get the goop under and in there.install chrome. very common leak spot, water runs behind the clip under the gasket and into the car..really i like to seal under all the clips before i install the glass or gasket..but its still fixable..then stick the caulking tube tip tween the glass and gasket and run a bit all the way around...use thumb to squish out the excess then razor blade it clean...just enough to make a bond between the glass and gasket. hope this helps!

I went ahead and just popped the glass out. I am going to do the same on the rear so I can get the headliner issue fixed at the same time.

So do you put the seal on the glass first then pop the seal around the body?

Thanks Pat. I have been doing as much reading as I can and got the sealer that leadfoot suggested.

Mike,
How well do you know, or get along with, the Used Car Manager at your store? We have guys that install NEW glass in our broke windshield cars for dirt cheap (on nearly everything). I've had them do removals and re-installs on my TJ and YJ when I was painting the frames, etc. I'm betting you can have a professional re-install that glass for cheeeeeap, and have a perfect seal. Some times it pays to let the pros do it.

And miss out on learning something :redneck:

Both windows are in and working on getting the front sealed. Its actually not bad. You just have to pay close attention to fitment and clips.... Piece of cake...

ya that stuff is kinda weird to work with...a shot of sprayaway glass cleaner before razor blading helps the cleanup..:awesomework:

I am using 3M adhesive cleaner and its working like a champ... Luckily I was smart enough to tape around the seal area or---I would have a LARGE mess to clean... :redneck:
