are these worth buying found a set for 300$ there fine spline cause they have drive flange on them in stead of regular yokes i assume there 6.17 gear i read on a nother site there rear axel dimamter is larger than top load rocks but weaker cause of the metal of the 50s are they worth running

I've came across at least 10 complete trucks I could have bought over the years. I would always hear I've got a deuce and a half for sale for 500.00. And I said does it have top load or face load axles and the answer was yea it's the top load ones and would drive 200 miles for a good deal and pull up and see the shape of the truck cab and tell my buddy dammit we drove all this way to see this pile of ****. Then when I wasn't intrested it was almost give to me to get rid of it and I still drove away empty handed and pissed off.

That said I had a buddy that had a set under a cobbled up buggy and they held up to him it had a dodge 440 with 46" military tires on it with the factory drum brakes that never worked :****: there's a video of it somewhere on you tube under big southfork off road

man thanks for the info i see what you mean i ant to far from crosville tn i kinda know where that big sourth for park is like i said i found a set for 150 each axel but i figured if i did run them and broke it be hell to find spares some one had done got 1 of the rears just 1 rear and the frount is left they clame 617 gears from fine splines ones that have the flat flang the other are corse you never heare to many people run them one that have after they broke they went to top loads i think i save my self the trouble just run top loaders was trying to save some height plus i know a guy has he said 100 rear rock well axels in his back yard but he was sold out of frounts figures ever one runs rocks wount rear steer i see why hes got so many rears its a shame some one dont make a kit to turn rears in to steers lol

you can get parts from them from alot of military surplus auctions and there are alot of these out. If your not going to b extremely hard they will hold up but the axles are weaker than rocks and the ring gears are weak but that being said if you ain't going to throw over 400 ponies at them and no bigger than 42 id say they will work for ya but they are heavy and get ready to get hung up by the center chunk no way to shave it either. Its all in what your going to do with them but they are nothing close to compare to a rockwell

a frind let me have some top loaders i was afred of the old axels any ways as far as i know they could be locked up i going to be a lot happier with top load rock wells thanks for the info thow if any one did wount the gmcs i found let me know i can give them the info
