Good cold air intake for chevy 350?

So I'm looking up info to replace the stock cold air intake for my 5.7, Chevy v8 TBI engine. I found this:

K&N = Problems down the road, if this was for a concrete pavement daily driver vehicle maybe a different situation.

hmm interesting -- so here is my real problem -- the air intake thats on the 350 is sorta broken right now, restricting the airflow. I could go out and get a new stock intake, but I was thinking of getting something similar to the K&N which I'd chop off the cone and make my own snorkel.

It'd be really cool if there was someone that made the pieces that fit on the 350 TBI, but didn't charge the crazy prices of K&N -- it just seems overkill.
