GRAVELRAMA 44 @ CLEVES OH

I went Sunday and it was a waste of time and money. We stood around for an hour before we even heard and engine start. Then once they were running the eliminator hill they would let off halfway up and coast over the top, between each pass there was a big dead spot where nothing happened for a few minutes. Maybe it was boring do to lack of racers, or bad organization,or the heat but Sunday isn't the right day to catch anything exciting, and I won't be going back to find out what day is.

yeah not too many guys like the side x side hill drags. There is only a 150ft shut down with a sand wall. Saturday is 300ft flat drags with a 200 yard shut down area. The US army top fuel car was here 2 years ago with sand paddles on instead of the drag slicks. He set a new track record with it that still stands. Then they have the big eliminator hill on sunday that 180ft up at 75* degree angle. if you make it up and over on your own power you move on. on the third try its timed from bottom to mid hill and winner is determined by the timed run. This is the closest we have to F1 offroad in U.S. but i heard that michigan is building one like iceland has and gravelrama is in the works possibly.

I can't totally disagree with ya on this one. I used to go all the time and it was a lot more exciting 10 years ago. The cars have become more drag race specific and a lot of them aren't running the hill because its too hard on the motors. Most of them are not running injection and don't have the proper fuel and oil pump to accommodate that steep of an angle. I do know the first guy that went up took out the light system and it took over an hour to fix. After that it seemed like everyone was breaking. We were only there till 5 and it hadn't got out of the X classes yet. I know the director pretty well and he is really pushing to make a lot of changes in the next few years. Its going to be interesting to see what he'll be able to do if the powers that are over it financially let him get it going. I think it will return to its glory days of the 70's 80's and 90's then and you'll see a whole new crowd and a new set of racers start coming back.

Hopefully someone can turn it around and get back to what it used to be. Ten years ago we would spend 2 days there and have a blast, I couldn't be there for 2 hours this year.
