Grinding Noises

When ever I'm starting off in 1st gear I hear the grinding noise. After my truck gets going and I'm still in 1st the noise stops. All other gears after trouble free. My buddy and I just changed out the carrier bearing so I'm suspecting that that is where the problem lies but there is on play in the driveline and I can find no obvious cause. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

Can you 'feel' the grinding in either the shifter stalk or the clutch pedal?

Late 70's early 80's with a 5 speed? You lost the bearings on 1st and 5th. They used the 4 speed case and added a gear in those years. They made somethings smaller to allow the extra gear. That problem came up about 3 years after the design.

I should have included that my truck is a 94 Toyota Pickup. I don't feel the grind in the shifter or clutch.
