*** UPDATED *** Grrrrrrr Stupid pickup !!

READ BELOW FOR UPDATE

I am ready to stick a M-80 in the fuel tank and blow this thing up!

So i but this used c20, runs like **** and missed sadly, but for 200$ o well. had 2 holes with low comp.. so i rebuilt the head and runs ok, great power too like a cut cat, but, I have 2 issues...(1) when i drop it in gear the idle goes way too low and it tries to die..(2) if it idles very long, park or neutral it starts running choppy and then will start to miss and foul a plug or 2..
wtf? i been doing this for years and never had one kick my ass like this. i think its been so long since i tinkered with a carbbed eng im missing something:mad:

You just need to part that POS out.

What a crazy coincedence, I just so happen to need the front end off of it :haha:

well aparently i forgot to tighten the distributor bolt, seems 213 degrees BTDC isnt the right setting :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

well that cured the fouling issue, still drops & dies when its put in gear:wtf: i know the throttle shaft bushings are a bit worn but never seen them cause one to stumble and die this bad, and in 1.1 seconds:wtf:

crusty-- sure gimmie what i got into it now, show me $1K and you can drive it home :flipoff:

Sounds like the float level is too high or the carb base gasket is sucked in or another vacuum leak spot (mine did that just before the timing chain leaped a tooth)

i have plugged all 3 vacume lines, and same, base gasket and all others brand new, no difference.. but.. was playing around and took my propane torch and opened the gas up, and put the tip right by the throttle shaft bushing and tossed her in gear, idle didnt crash that time, pretty sure its the bushings

Shaft bushings will not cause that kind of problem by themselves. They can be compensated for by adjusting the idle speed up and enrichening the mixture screws a bit. Keep looking for a vacuum leak, Especially around the egr valve area. Keep in mind if the motor has some miles on it, you can advance the timing a bit more than stock.

Also check with a timing light and see if the timing is wandering, could be loose timing chain and/or advance unit in the distributor.

old school trick

to find a vacuum leak around the intake since you obvoisly took it off to do the heads.

Spray some WD 40 sparingly in places in small increments around the gaskets and front and back seal gasket. If the engine idles up for a second or 2 you found a leak if it is vacuum related. But clean off all the WD 40 so it won't eat up the new gaskets and seals.

also the base gasket on the carb, but shield the over spray from carb intake or you will get a false up rev.

use the little red applicator to do this also.

UPDATE...
i have ran it with ALL vacume lines plugged, no difference...

did a manifold vacume test, no leaks..

all carb gaskets are new

lowered my float level and cured the fouling issue, went a tad too low and runs outta gas if i hit it too quick...

REMAINING ISSUE--- only remaining issue is the rpm drops from 1000 to 400 and stumbles and pukes out when i drop it in gear.. :wtf:

QUESTION..
I cannot remember, when the idle drops, and the engine vacume changes, does the vacume supposed to raise for the vacume advance to compensate? i cannot rememmber???? I broke my vacume guage before i could check it, so im not sure if it opens up vacume or if its even supposed to... maybe thats my missing link here, but my tester broke.
