I want to tell myself it's fine to run adapters to put h1's on the X, but I know the "better" method would be to recenter them.

Trail worthy will be 800 plus shipping.
Wheels and adapters I figure half that....

Truly, I'm not sure why I want to go this route but I can't shake the want

Hours of research and I've come up with this.. Apparently if it's quality adapter, "not Chinese junk" they seem to work fine. I read for hours about the same thing.. Now your problem is going to be that 4 adapters cost about the same as re-centering. :dunno: and that's why the 24 bolts are still in basement. FAWKIN sucks. Run from 16.5's while u can! Haha. For your excursion I would assume ? I think it will be just fine. Even with all of the reviews , still just couldnt bring myself to do it off-road..
Edit. Just read they are for Ur excursion. I wouldn't have a problem with that if I was u..

I think most stories about wheel adapters failing are either cheap jap crap or no maintenance.

That being said, I would feel a lot more comfortable if said adapter was hub-centric. That way all the lug nuts are doing is providing torque.

Look at the Superduty unit bearings 4 studs hold it and the entire wheel on. It is hub-centric though, all those 4 studs do is provide torque. Technically that wheel could be 4-lug and be just as strong as the axle itself. You never see unit bearings falling off of those axles, its the last point of failiure. Some of the older models will separate at the bearing itself, but the bearing flange stays on the axle even then.

I know for running older axles and newer wheels, everybody says to only run steel spacers, not aluminum. There are thousands of folks running spacers with 05+ wheels on 99-04 trucks. Adapters would be no different.
