Saw on the pirate board the marine base wants to take over the land! This sucks! Check out the Johnson valley threads.

wouldn't surprise me, especially since they are eventually giving up MCAS Miramar in San Diego... it's not like they don't have enough desert training areas... that would be a real big loss for the community.

well you gotta weigh both sides of the story.

1st there is never enough training area. The more training area you have just means you can train on a larger scale, larger simulated battles etc.. Would you rather take this away from our military so they can train in a virtual reality world and not experience real world data??

Now for the wheeler's. Yeh they would be taking it away form us, but I have been down there and there is plenty of other area's to set-up a course.

support your military otherwise we may not have anything to wheel on at all. just my $0.02

i just got out of the marine corp, and i know for sure that yuma, az is already being prepping for part of the miramar to move.

first, cax is held out there in 29 stumps... which is combined arms exercises, but now with desert talon and WTI down in yuma, we never went to cax from yuma, always deployed. 29 stumps is real local to johnson valley. tons of desolate land, not to mention that the majority of the land south of I8 is military bombing ranges and field ranges from yuma half way to tucson. head north towards quartzsite, az, half the land is all ranges and the other half is wildlife area. and depending on how the land is assimilated, it still can be open for orv use. non firing ranges are common, like the el camino diablo trail in arizona is 95% on training ranges. you just have to register for a free permit and report your entry and exit. another example in california that's on a range map, but open to public is superstition by el centro. it's a non live bombing range, and can be used. so the purpose or how they are assimilating the land will really determine public use. if it becomes a live bombing range, it will never open for public use again. not all bombs blow up, there's also a lot of unused or rarely used ranges that will never be open because of the possibilty of live ordinance.

i just read the brief,

Sorrey to say it but in my opinion its a done deal.

notice the wording of "Will Be" capatilized at each use.

this is an order. to contracts and up the line already has signatures and dates.

ya got til 2012.

the plan emplementation starts fall 2008:eeek:

BLM and FAA to serve as cooperating agencies...

Stakeholders have been identified and readied for Outreach...they started with 300 elected officials, they do at least mention off-road vehicle enthusiasts.

What i read linked from link above this is a brief from someone who says "make it happen" and gets his way. the cover letters had names and official logos so this is command policy already.

better write those letters now as a shitstorm from the public better happen right away through your elected officials or it will just be pushed through as a rider. the pirate thread has a ton of info in it already.:booo:

never been there as an adult... Rode some peice o crap yamaha 90 for a few days but we only had one and a few teenagers so it only lasted three days. but i never forgot it:awesomework:

Geez this sucks I've been hoping to make my first trip there in 2009, I hope that will still be possible.

I guess the military doesn't already have enough resources

like they need more practice dropping bombs in the desert.:flipoff:

YES. There's plenty of other land they can blow up.

they have plenty of land to blow up already... the marine corp may be in a present state of expansion... which makes me have to sit here and wonder when they are gonna have a recall :eeek: :booo: :5bitch: :screwdog: ... but by the next president, if they have half a brain, will probably reverse the expansion and the corp will be downsized right back to where they are... our country can't fix our deficit, expand the military and fight a war... i'm all for finishing what we started, but we are already spread thin... the minute they use live ordinance we are screwed for ever to be able to use that land again...

What a more perfect way for California to close OHV areas. They are always trying to close them down, what a better way than making a deal with the military! There is miltary bases all over in that area.

Nows a good time to donate to the Blue ribbon colition to help fight this.On the pirate thread there is a lot of links to send E mails to gov. officials to express the concerns and you never know the next president might down size the military and this may not happen to JV.
