Hardline Ride: Old Gardendale. November 13, 2010

Is there a good place to stay the night close by? I don't think I want to ride that distance in the morning and then wheel all day.

There are hotels in Fultondale, or you are welcome to stay at my house. I am about 20 miles away and on your way home.

I just received this from Tony:

King of Cable Hill Competition

Come out and see if you have what it takes to be the “KING of Cable Hill”. Qualifying will start at 9:00am November 13th; the competition will take place at 11:00am November 14th. This will not be an open ride weekend, competition only. There will be 2 classes: 38.5” tires and less, $50.00 entry fee, qualifying will be on race course Saturday and the Sunday race will be on “Tippy Toe” and our newest trail. The Unlimited class, 39” tires will have a $100.00 entry fee. Qualifying will be on race course Saturday. Sunday race will be on Cable Hill. 100 race vehicles max with up to 15 teams from each class advancing to race Sunday. Payout will be a minimum of 60% of driver’s entries or up to $5000.00, down to third place in both classes. Camping will be available Friday and Saturday nights. Helmets and seat belts are required. Safety inspection will be held before race. All rules are subject to change. Teams can pre-register at the Off-Road Connection. 205-841-2493

I have not talked to him yet, but I don't think this wil be a sucessful event. I feel we should go ahead and ride Old Gardendale. If the Saturday Cable event is sucessful, we could attend the finals on Sunday.

The only way a King of Cable Hill comp is gonna draw a huge turnout is if he guarantees $5k and it's Cable Hill only. None of the TN guys are gonna come and run a qualifier on Sat. and race on Sunday. If they guarantee the money, then I will happily compete for it.

AGREED. No payout money, No racers. Why only $50.00 for smaller tires and $100.00 for unlimited class? I would assume that the same fee would be for both classes. Higher fees will also eliminate the guy who is on the wall thinking that there is no way he can win it so why pay it? Just like last weekend when there were just as many people running cable hill immediately after the comp was over as there was in the comp. Make sense, I'm not sure, but it does to me.

Thanks John for the offer. I will see how things workout as we get closer to the dates and let you know. thumb.gif

YEah that is silly, up to 5k, yeah if what 100 people enter. If Tony wants a successfull event he needs to pony up the cash and throw it down to the fastest up, just like BTF did. Otherwise, 10 people will enter and it will not be worth a ****.

Yeah I've been dropping entry fees because of fear of people being too cheap. If you pre-register, you only pay $35(or $30...still working on it) to ride and compete for a shot at a guaranteed $1000 minimum. KingoftheHill in Florette managed to get about $100 per entry but I don't see cable pulling that at all. Maybe some of the ColeWorx guys, maybe.

So if 10 people enter the big class at $100 a pop, that's $1000, but then payout could be 60% so that's back down to $600. Don't get me wrong $500 is a bunch of money but not when I have a good chance at losing $100...

Well I think pre-registering rarely works, people don't plan that far ahead they just load up and show up. So I think all pre-registering does is require a lot more work up front for the handful of people that do it.

The payout is a joke, if he wants people to show up and put on a show, it needs to be run what you brung, fastest time and no qualifying. This is not a full on comp it is a run up a hill. For the winner it will take less than 15 seconds to do.

IMO pre-registry works for people who are serious about the event. You pre-registered for KOH right? If I was considering event A or event B, and event B provided cheaper entry, guaranteed payout, a free T-shirt, I would pre-register and commit for it.

Seeing how well the "prelude to King of Cable" went, I would be concerned with putting up all that effort to organize an event for 6 competitors. Pre-registry persuades people to commit

Yeah you have to pre-register for KOH if you want to race, kinda mandatory. If it is not required people don't do it, so the option pre-register to save $5 bucks just make you do more work.

This cable hill comp is a joke, if they actually came correct and threw done the cash it would be a hit. As it is it will never get more traction. They need to learn from BTF how to sack up and put down a challenge

The thing I think about is Cable in November will be a slop fest! I doubt it'll be who can make it fastest, it'll be who can make it at all

Wow, lots of good ideas. Almost like the competition needs it's own thread. Maybe include the softliners.

The ride is less than a week away. I plan to attend. Does anybody want to meet for breakfast?
