Adam and I picked up Bender (Rob Parks, west coast fabber, owns FU2) at the St. Louis airport Friday night and got into a LONG talk about rockcrawling safety, about Dave Halabuk(sp?) dying, philly2crazy, etc. Got to talking about helmets, and at the hammers EVERYONE wears a helmet. At all times. Why? What started it is the deaths of their friends and the reality check, but what keeps it going is people like Bender and the other "cool kids" wear them. People see "the in crowd" wearing helmets and since the cool kids have 'em, they want 'em to.

It's a fact what we do is dangerous, and we're lucky we haven't had many serious head injuries yet in the SE. You don't even have a roll/crash to bang your noggin and knock yo self out. If you're wearing just a lapbelt and you drop off a rock the wrong way you could seriously hurt yourself.

What I'm trying to get at is I think it's time we all start wearing our helmets, all the time. I don't care if you're running from the top of Bents N Dents to the top of Cable Hill to watch, wear it. If the "in crowd" around here starts being more safety conscious I think it would catch on.

I agree, whenever I get my buggy built, I will be wearing a helmet. I am really lucky that nothing has happened to me. Especially(sp) when I was doing cyclones at MM.
Ricky, where did you get your helmet from?

Bob's Bikes in Vestavia. Any bike shop or skate shop should carry Protec. Any other helmet brand is too uncomfortable to me. You want to look for the type with the soft foam, not the hard formed stuff.

It does need to become a "norm" in the SE. The high speed blasts and steep stuff. Im amazed more people havent gotten head injuries around here honestly. Your right though Ricky ( and Im guilty ) we need to start sportin skid lidz on the norm so others will pick it up and it will be the cool thing to do.

Good talk man, now we are going to have to police each other on the matter. ... :indianajones:

I agree. The first club I saw to start collectively wearing helmets was Peak Empire. I think it is a good idea, I have two. Guess I could knock the dust off.

Here is a Pirate thred on helmets:

I like this one:

I might wear a helmet shaped like this :indianajones:. when it's cool. I'll just drive conservatively (read like a *****) when it's warm. Hell I survived cars without seatbelts, bicycles without helmets, AND skateboards without pads.

Before anyone else says it "Famous last words".

I keep mine "tethered" to the buggy, and dont wear it "at all times" but even at MMORV when Amber and I went up the left side of Primos, we both had them on. I doubt seriously ill wear it every second Im in the car, thats a little overboard and yea I know thats when it happens, but **** man, I dont wear a seatbelt in my DD unless Im towing or its really bad weather, its calculated risk... I live on the edge molaugh HAHAHAHHA ( I make me laugh at me... )

The fact that you don't wear a seatbelt in your truck is just plain stupid man. Seriously not being a **** but that is just asking for it. Don't be that guy

I know I know.... and I know. laughing1 Habit habit habit . at least HB wont step into a car and not wear one, she's all the time

Daddy, you better click it or ticket molaugh

So what, habit my ass, change it. It take a second to click it and about the same time for a car wreck to happen. Come on man.

I'm the guy who buckles up to move cars in the driveway. Accidents happen when you least expect it, so always expect it!

Aren't you the guy who rolled the jeep "driving conservatively"? Who rolled with a lapbelt only and landed with his arm out of the rig?

I think RB qualifies as the safety nazi, but that is just his nature to worry all the time. :flipoff1: I have heard a lot of I rolled in the driveway and loading on the trailers lately, so I buckle up everytime I am in the rig and have been wearing my harnesses a lot more lately. Will add the helment wearing to the list also

For daily driving you gotta wear the belt all the time, because you are taking about more speed and lots more drivers to watch out for.

I've only rolled over once and hit the trailer. Oh yea, in the front yard. No seatbelt. I am on passender side in the dirt and the Jeep is damn wide open trying to get traction. Luckly someone reached in and cut it off. If it would have found traction, it would have run off in the lake. Oh yea, day I got it!!!
