So I installed some new heavy-duty stainless steel/teflon/kevlar brakelines from Xtremecrawlers.com. Couldn't be happier with the lines.

Well the lines come with AN-3 fittings. So I had them send them with AN-3 to 3/8 GM standard fittings.

Well the fittings leak at the joints, I thought maybe it was just because I didn't have them tight enough, so I cranked them down. Still leaking.

So I did some calling, and I think my problem is that the AN-3 to GM adapters use an inverted flare, and my cheap-o flare tool I got from Napa makes a standard flare.

So I am hoping someone in the general area might have a flaring tool that can do inverted flares. If you do and you could do these for me tonight or tomorrow sometime it would be most apprecaited and would be willing to show up to your place with my hard-lines and a case of beer to say thanks.

Help...please.

I don't know of such tool. Your going to have to get an adapter to go from an inverted to verted flare..

Crusty Jeep has the mother of all flaring tools. If it's made, he's got it. But you should just be able to buy an extended GM brake hose and ditch all that AN stuff:awesomework:

Yea, I think I was wrong above.

This is the adapter I have, the male end is the AN-3 that goes to the flex lines. The female end is the 3/8-24 that my hard line screws into, which has the standard male fittings on it.

Yes, if you can't tell I'm a bit confused. :D

Clean it real good and dry it. Then have a buddy step on the brake pedal while you watch which end it's leaking from. The AN side, or the flare side. And that's a standard flare style (I think, i think i think)

I just had the girl friend come out in the shop and pump the brakes while I watched, its is definetly leaking from the flare side not the AN side.

Brad - I'm sending you a PM.

Several of us have Crusty's "mother of all flaring tools" I'm in Kent. I can do whatever if you need it.

Our kits can do that--fawk I am either getting old or doing too many drugs

"turns around/opens case"

I am a fawkin retard

Nick if you can wait till tues I wil bring it to work and hand it over to markus

Crash, that would be way to cool if you would do that. If no one else is up for doing it tommorrow or something I can definetly wait.
I pulled the lines, and am going to take a few pictures I am hoping someone can maybe identify the farrel (sp?) ends I have.

So the camera wouldn't take a clear picture. But I found this on the carcraft website with a google search.

I think this is what my set up is from the looks of it. My fitting is male AN-3 to female inverted flare 3/8x24 thread. So not sure why this is leaking but Crash I am still up for borrowing your flaring tool to try to make a better flare and maybe that will help.

How many different flare styles are there? Inverted Flare and AN-Flare, is there some other common flare that my adapter may have?

Won't help you now, but I just replaced my front lines with braided stainless made here in town for far less than I found anywhere online. 6 inch longer than stock, took 1/2 hr to make, fit first time, and no leaks.
Had them made at a logging supply company, Go figure.......

I have to say a big thanks to Brad, I went by his place today and he gave me a quick 10 minute lesson on the difference between Single and Double Flare. Then he GAVE me a kit that had the specail apapters to do Double Flares.

Got it home had all the joints re-flared in an hour or so and put the brake lines back on the truck. Bled the brakes, no leaks so far.

Thanks Brad. :hi:

Mike, with that said I don't think I'll need your super-all-in-one-bad-ass-flaring kit after all. Thanks though, I do apprecaite the offer.
