I use them for almost everything. Good prices and they normally have it in stock.

Damn, I thought they made steel in Bham :flipoff1:

I get everything from ryerson, but they don't like small orders.

Also, if your links are more than about 30" long, you may want to get something in 2".

I am gona make spare links with whatever is leftover. Its cheaper to buy 2 sticks of tube and put it on the shelf than by inserts and bigger tube. :****:

Have you priced solid 7075 Haley? Might come up about the same if you can find a good source for it, since you have all the tooling to drill and tap.

Not really setup for drilling and tapping. Gona be able to tap it ;D,.

You go bigger than you think is ok. You don't want to have to worry about links when you're riding. I have seen your Dad drive before I think you should go 2.5" .500 wall. :flipoff1:

I did exactly what you are talking about. Tapped that same size tubing for those same joints. Mine a tweaked a little. If I had to do it over again, I'd to solid aluminum and drill/tap it. It would probably be easier and cheaper. I think that stuff is going for $17 a foot around here.

I bought my 7075 AL from L. Miller and Son in Huntsville a few months ago. It was $530 for 12' of 2 inch and 12' of 1.75 inch. This made up all of my links and I had enough left over to make one spare lower link. After making these and running them on 2 rides, I'll never have steel links again.

Another option if you are set on steel is a trick that Bent Fabrications on Pirate does. He uses 1.25 OD by 9/32 wall DOM and sleeves it with 1.5 OD by .125 wall. The 1.25 OD is the right size that he does not have to drill it. It will tap for a 3/4" . I thought that was pretty good idea and you gain a ton of strength by sleeving. Probably cheaper to get it this way than it is to get 1.5 OD .375 wall.

$530/24' is still $22 a foot, guessing tha tthe 2" was $24 and the 1.75 was $20 a foot. In the grand scheme, $530 isn't much on a buggy, but everything costs money

My new rig will have AL links period

I don't remember the price per piece, I only remembered the total and that was with the tax included. I do remember there was a pretty good price difference in the 1.75 and 2. I also remember asking for the price of 1.5 and it was a good bit cheaper to. I went with the 1.75 uppers because of my Unimog axles and knowing that there would be more load on them than regular upper links. When I build a new buggy I am going to use 2 inch lowers and 1.5 inch uppers.
