I need quick basics on how to negotiate job pay. My EX employer's are tryin very hard to get me back. I got a call Friday from my old manager asking me to talk to the
new General Manager. They want be back, and he has said I have the job if I want it. The only thing we need to clear up is pay. Obviously I WILL NOT go back with out
a decent increase. What is a resonable % in these cases ? I know management people tend to have these "basic" rules of thumb on pay rates , increases and percentages and such ...

I want a 25% increase... no ****, because they under paid me while I was there and they knew it. I also believe that Im worth that annual salary, and that the industry surely allows for it.

Thoughts ?

i would tell them to make their best offer and go from there that will tell you how bad they want you back then tell them how you could help the company and this is what it would take for me to come back if that does not work tell them to :flipoff1: :flipgotcha:

There is not much too it, tell them how much you want to get paid and if they don't do it then no deal, simple as that. IF they want you bad enough they will pay what you are asking.

25% is huge so have your game plan in place when you talk. Years of service, history of raises, accomplishments while you were there,
future changes/projects you see and your goals for yourself 5years 10years out (always important to me) If you want 25% you have to sell
yourself, confident in your ability not cocky. When you leave the room somebody needs to say, quick go get him before he drives off!
Go getem P!

It's good to hear from someone that actually decides on raises according to MERIT.No matter what your business is, it is all about sales. Identify your customers (employer) needs. Explain features and benefits of the product (you). Show the value/cost. Ask for the order.
If this looks like canned advise it is. This is from retail training from Goodyear Tire and Rubber circa 1978. I don't think it's out of date yet.

Just an update... I told them my price, and while he did say " Its a bit higher than I had in mind , but let me see what I can do " I felt good about the situation when we last spoke. That was Monday.

He just called and left me a VM so I will call him back shortly and see what he has for me.. ;D
