Yea, I mean, I've heard alot of people singin their praises...but I'm just not sure about puttin a set of retreads on my $40k truck. Especailly if I'm towing someone's rig. I'd run them all day long on a vehicle I don't drive much, or on a trail rig...but on my DD.....seems like a gamble..... :****:

Man I've always been skeptical about retreads after changing tires in the summer time on dump trucks. Seems like we were either replacing them cause they were about to sling a cap or they already did. Now I know this is a different tire company than we used so not sure what to say. :dunno: They do have a damn good price though.

Just wander how true the actually are - good chance at least one out of 4 would not balance right and would have to get it trued

yup. wouldn't put them on my new dually, but I bought a 1500 99 chevy that needs some shoes.
Dad is a farmer and drives all mud and gravel feeding cows, he alsways needs tires, I'm thinking of some for him.

I say perfect for that. Dad wont run them on his service truck because they are usually not tru and when the cap slings off it takes a fender or something with it. :****:

USDOT ran around all over the country a while back picking up "alligators" (trucker for slung treads). They found about equal numbers of caps and virgin treads, attributing most failures to underinflation and overloading. As to the trueness of the tire, it seems to have more to do with the condition of the casings used and the skill of the recapper.

As PsDad said, a lot of problems with retreads is maintenance. If you run them low or high on air they won't last as long and if you buy ones that have had the casing recap'd more than twice or is cracked they won't last long. I know a lot of guys that run them on big rigs without any problems. I'm thinking about them for my 06 when it needs tires. Maybe only the drives and put virgins on the fronts like the semi guys do.

I have always run recaps on the rears of my tractor trailer and dump trucks, but I always use my own tires. I start out when the truck is new and run the tires until under 8/32 thread and then I send them off to have a recap put on them. I will recap a tire twice on a dump truck and once on a tractor, but up to three times on the trailers. I never use recaps on a steer axle, but know folks who do with no issues.
