I am going to be building this elusive dana 44 soon, MY steering box has some bad geometry right now on the steering i currently have, when i go to the high steer, obviously it will put the tie rod and drag link above the leafs. But with the steering box being set back a little, if i were to put the drag link on the front (outside) of the high steer arm, where is should be, it would bind the rods, but if i put it on the first hole (closer/smaller radius) then iwould have no binding issues, and my current steering woes would virtually be eliminated...:eeek:

What are your thoughts of running the drag link on the closer in hole on the steering arm? not enough leverage to turn? too much force/stress? not going to make a difference?

not sure if i described the issue well, but i am just wonder if it's a viable solution to not having to move my steering box, I am going to drill two holes on each arm for this, so if for some reason, i can run it the "proper" way i will, or if it doesn't work out the other way. I can't see it being that bad, but i bet i'll notice a difference i nhow much force it takes to turn...

Did I read that right? Are you intending to attach the tie rod to (what is essentially) dissimilar-length steering arms?

NO! I know better than that:; , what i am saying is, instead of having the drag link connect on the outer hole on the arm, is having the drag link on the inside hole where the tie rod would normally be and having the tie rod connect on the outer hole (with the other side obviously at the same distance from the knuckle) where the drag link would normally be, and on the drivers side knuckle having the tie rod hole out at the same distance as where the drag link would have normally gone. understand? sorry, i ma bad at describing, i could show/draw it better:redneck: :hi:

Do both of your steering arms have 2 holes? I'm a D44 newb, so that may be the case, but I thought most I have seen only have one hole for the tie rod on the driver's side arm. Like the ones from OTT here:
