somewhere i heard (maybe it was a different size tube) that you can use 1 1/2" .120 wall tube and put a poly bushing in it that has the metal sleeve (or maybe not with the sleeve) using a 9/16" bolt and use it as an upper shackle mount on the frame.... is this true? or am i making things up? or are my details mixed??? there was a certain style bushing (YJ perhaps???) that would just slip right in...:eeek:

1.5" .120 dom is a good fit for a YJ bushing

Your welcome.....

Yup... that's what I used for mine. 1.5 x .120 DOM and poly YJ bushings. The YJ bushings have a sleeve and use 9/16" bolts... 9/16" bolts are hard to find for some stupid reason.... nobody carries them, they all go from 1/2" to 5/8"... luckily we have Ace Hardware on Grant Road in E. Wenatchee that has just about every nut, bolt and piece of hardware known to man... so I was able to track down the right ones.

I was just about to post this up boonie...

dont the yj springs have two differnent bushing sizes? what end is it, big or small end? best source for the bushings?

:eeek: all of mine use a 1/2" bolt... They wouldn't fit without drilling otherwise.

The fixed mount uses 9/16". The shackle end is 1/2". It is on mine, anyway. When I bought all of my spring bolts, I made the dumb mistake of measuring the fixed end and assumed all the other bolts were 9/16" too. Out of the $80 worth of GR-8 9/16" bolts I bought, I could only use 4 of them.

ok, so it's just a matter of getting some YJ bushings, are they 2 1/2" wide??? or will they be 2" I need the bigger width... more gerth if you will:redneck:

I believe Matt was describing an imaginary hybrid of fixed eye bushings and shackle end bushings.

The shackle ends are 1.25" ID, which makes 1.5"x.120" tube suitable. The fixed eyes are at least 1.50".

Just for the record, I prefer 1.75"x.250" tube because the thicker tube provides better side support for the bushing material.

You're right, I remember now that the 9/16" bolt issue was with the fixed side. The shackle end bushings use 1/2" which is easy to find.

I used 2"x.250 DOM with the bigger (fixed end, I guess) YJ poly bushings on my shackle hangers with 9/16" bolts.

yup...

I use 2" x .250 DOM and the 'bigger' YJ bushing for all my link ends...
and 1.5" x .120 w/ the smaller YJ bushing for all sorts of other mounts (motor mounts, tranny/x-case mounts, etc...)

just buy a whole set of YJ spring bushings every so often, and you get both...

For my new traction bar I'll be doing the 2" .25 wall tube as I split the tube that housed my bushing on my traction bar before. Material just was too thin.

Funny thing, I just realized the other day that I have the same problem with mine... it's oval shaped. :X
