I have a 2013 Honda accord 4 door with the I4 motor and automatic trans with 35k miles, about two weeks ago I noticed the car felling like it was slipping from gear to gear,so I just figured it was how the car was designed to have smoth shifting from gear to gear, untill I get in it last night to head to work put the car in reverse and it wont engage in gear so I give it a little gas nothing,so I give it a little more half throttle to be exact and it starts to move but not much.I started thinking trans fluid might be low go to check it and of course no dip stick to check it,have to take it to the dealer to get the fluid level checked.I took it to the dealer droped it off for the day and they drove it around and it does nothing wrong,so they say,so now im out $100 for nothing.I started researching and there are alot of people having the same issue and getting the same answer I got, nothing wrong with it and dealership does nothing to fix the problem. Is there anyone else having the same problem or any advise? Thanks.

There is a bulletin on all 13 14 accord 4cyls with a cvt trans. You do a new valve body and update pcm. It fixes them I have done prolly 200 of them. It pays 1.2 and is a pain in the ass so leave it and let it cool off. If it has been done before they updated the valve body about 3 months ago so get it done again. I have done my moms 2 times. I bet when its cold it feels like it hesitates when you first take off forward for the first time every morning almost like a sticking egr valve. If I remember I can pull the bulletin tom.

Yes it is driving as you say hesitates on take off and just started it in reverse also.I am not sure if its been done before I just bought it 3 months ago the car came from the chattnooga,Tn dealership, would they have a record of any repairs like that?I took the car to the cleveland,tn dealership today and they pretty much told me unless they drive the car and problem occurs they won't fix it.Will the bulletin make them look into it any further?Hope you can find it,thanks for the help.

Its 13-053. The tech driving it is more than likely trying to get out of doing it. They suck, the fluid gets EVERYWHERE, and it stinks almost as bad as gear dope. I googled Honda 13-053 and it brought up pages of it. There are a few vin breaks but it covers all 13's and most 14's. Very very very common problem.

Is honda stuff just being made cheaper? Seems like a lot of problems with some of the newer stuff than what you'd see in the older ones

Honestly its not "alot" of problems its just problems with specific things. I worked for chrysler/kia dealer when I started out and it was never the same thing and crazy weird problems. When I see a ticket I can tell you what it is without even seeing the car. Social media has a way of drivin the nail home on issues that upset people. Seeing all the stuff I work on I still think honda is still one of the best ones out there, they just starting to get a little proud of them.

They are getting proud, but given what the Korean stuff is going for these days, theyre not that high.

Just remember you only hear about the bad ones. Honda's are great cars over all. I'd rather have a 60k mile Honda than a brand new Chrysler, Kia, Hyundai or pretty much anything other than a Toyota.

Well picked the car up today, the tech's were pretty helpfull in person, but of course when we drove the car it drove perfect. They went as far as showing my how the cvt trans worked, even let me drive a brand new one and it drove the exact same, and they didn't make me pay diagnostic fee.I have never had any luck with honda's so I will probley just sell it and go back to a toyota. Thanks for all the info and help.

Did you ask them about the bulletin?

Isnt the problem the CVT transmission in older accords and stuff to? I have a 2012 civic si, 6speed manual thumb.gif

Yes I showed them the bulletin and told them everything bug-e j,but it did no good, unless the problem happens while there tech drives the car then they will look into it further, kinda seems to me they know its a shity trans but don't want to spend the money by having a recall.

It's Honda's money not the dealer. The tech may not want to do it but everyone else will. It's a good ticket for everyone but the tech. You should have the 60k power train warranty. Maybe you can try another dealer.

This. It's such a common problem if I pull a ticket on them with that vin range I just do it. Don't even drive it. Has fixed every one.
