Engineering feat!!!

I was out at Mead a few years ago, and then a few months ago. The progress is amazing. I got these from one of the guys that works for WAPA (Western Area Power Authority). They will eventually shut down the dam to traffic. The road from Boulder City to the dam will no longer be the 2-lane narrow, but 4 lane divided.

We were next to one of the "Trolleys" and the thing is as big as two cement trucks EASY!

Damn, that stuff is awesome. I would give my left one to be involved in a build like that. I am in heavy commercial construction, but have never had the oportunity to due anything on that caliber or magnitude. What a great build. If you happen to get any other pictures of the build, please forward them on to me. thumb.gif

sorry the pics are inverse. If you start at the bottom and scroll to the top you can see it as progress.

I am 100% sure I'll get more pics, either from the guys at WAPA or our powerplant that is just down the river from here so its easy to swing over and check progress.

Pretty damn cool. Like I said, those trolleys on the cables that are hauling the concrete out are HUGE!!!!!

There was a show about that bridge on Discovery I think. Amazing work. If I could get in on those types of designs I would really love my job I think. Stuck in Residential/Commercial/Municipal Engineering is about as boring as watching paint dry.

Love those engineering marvel shows. Wish I was in Mechanical Engineering or Tool n Die work some days

I pretty much only watch the History Channel unless its Football. So much cool stuff.

That is really cool and even cooler if you have been there and seen how big that gorge is.

Wyatt, Do you guys have any of the power plants north of Vegas? I worked on building a couple substations up there to direct the power from the 3 power plants that were going up. I was just looking at pictures last night. I'll have to post some of them.

naw, I know some of the guys that helped commission one north of LV. Ours is actually south at the TOPOCK substation, its called Mojave Valley, AZ, or for directions its directly across the river from Needles, CA. about 90miles straight south of Vegas.

I've been on a bridge crew. We didn't do anything near that cool :o
what amazes me is that they are forming the archway from cables (the green things on the arches are forms.). I doubt they let a cold joint form, so they most likely pour all hours. Still amazing :o

Yeah that is awesome. I also watched that show about building the Bridge. They were showing how much the towers moved when they were first putting them up. How do the arch ways not fall? Whats holding them up?

Seriously, how the hell you make an "arch" meet in the middle with concrete hanging from Cable like blacksheep said... dayum thats some serious **** . :dunno:

COLE: Cmon man you need to go to Science City and play with the "Arch" exhibit they have with formed blocks man ! laughing1
