How to: Winch on your trailer

Just buy a battery and mount it on the trailer.

Only downside is you gotta remember to charge it... unless you get a dual battery isolator setup for your tow rig and string some battery cables back there with some quick disconnects.

or set it up with the blue wire of your 7 wire as your charge lead with a isolator so power will only flow to battery in trailer not back from it

Pick a decent sized standard battery and toss it on the trailer. Simple as that. A good battery should be able to winch a few piles of junk up and a trailer before you have any battery issues.

Just toss the charger on it every few months, or as part of your 'getting ready for a wheeling trip", toss the charger on it the night before and no issues.

I've thought about hooking it up to the truck... but never gotten to it. Hasn't been an issue except when I have forgotten to check it after 5-6 months or so.

Who uses the blue wire for the charge circuit? Blue should be the electric trailer brake feed.... Just check which contact in your truck's trailer plug is B+ and run a lead from it(in the trailer plug)to a fullsize battery mounted to the trailer/ even double the battery as the breakaway pwr source as mentioned before...real simple.
Better yet, if your trailer has a breakaway battery, then there should be B+ coming to it already to keep it charged---switch the small batt for a larger one, and be done...there's your power source for the above mentioned winch!!!

You can run power to the rear safely, then just use jumper cables (in any way or form) to the winch to get power to it....
