So I have a new project 1975 CJ5 starting in August and I need some input on just what I should do with it? Looking to run 33 to 35 inch tire and it will be a daily driver.

I think the axles will hold up to 33's but I will need lower gears?
I have heard of using YJ springs with a shackle reversal and a spring over?

Let me know what you think or have done?

YJ springs are too soft IMO, especially for a DD.

How hard are you going to wheel it? I may get flack for this......... :flipoff: but if it's a DD, why SOA it at all? You WILL lose road handling, and it will be kinda tall.

You could slap a 2" SUA lift under it, trim it, tube fender it, and run 35's just fine. Maybe move the rear axle back a couple inches.

I was just throwing out ideas to talk about I don't need an SOA... who's springs would you go with? oldmanemu or RE?

Procomp :flipoff:

Actually I'm half serious... They're too stiff for offroad, which makes them work on the street, and they're cheap.

If you still plan to wheel it lightly, just throw on a u-bolt flip setup to keep them out of the rocks, and re-mount the shocks higher too.

My 1979 CJ5 ran 35 Boggers with a 2 inch Rancho softride springs, SUA, and relatively aggressive fender trimming. AND IT FLEXED REAL GOOD! The Rancho softride was not that fun on the street, as it tended to sway pretty good. I'd go with a firmer spring for street. It didn't really need aggressive trimming until I went from 33s to 35s. Also woulda done better for the street if I still had on the '79s factory sway bar, which I discarded.

I've got a cj-5 with a 2 1/2 inch lift and 1/2 in shaclke lift on 33's - rancho lift with 9000 series shocks. Drives 10 times better than stock. Corners much better with non of the sagging spring lean. I would stick with 33's on a DD.

Mine is a 77 with a bunch of swapped parts
Dana 44 rear/30 front with 3.73 gears w/powerlocks
Dana 300
Dana 176
Great all around setup for trail and street

how did you lift it 2 1/2 inches? Springs? if so what brand?

Sorry for the slow response. I lifted it with 2.5 inch rancho springs and 1/2 inch con-ferr shackles
