Identify my rear end

I was told two speed rear end, two speed rear end. I thought those came on 2 ton trucks. Looked at it, see no lever for an speed and it damn sure doesn't look big enough for a 2 speed. It's on a 1.5 ton Ford, 1946 model.

This makes me wonder about the transmission. Does this second lever have a reduction set on the gears?

No clue. But if you crack it open and it's a 2 speed, post pics. I don't think it's physically possible with that packaging!

At minimum, I am going to spin it around and see what the ratio is. I pulled off everything electrical and the master cylinder. Brake lines, seat and all brackets are next. I want to start with a bare frame instead of making this complicated. Minimal wiring and plumbing is the goal.

Hell, the transmission looks too tiny to have a reduction set, but I can see no other reason for that lever. There is no PTO on it.

Might be a gear splitter on the rear of the trans.

Definitely attached to the transmission.

The rear looks like an older Timken style rear. Research looks more likely it is a 6.17 ratio, but could also be 5.14.

Apparently a fix axle through 72 will bolt in, although it'd be easy enough to put a 14b or similar in it.

Awesome. Gonna try and get it out soonish. It might be a lost cause, so I might be looking for an engine and transmission.
