I have a new project a friend is working on. He already has a 4 wheel drive 4L60E trans and a GM NP205 (8 bolt racetrack pattern). I was thinking it wouldn't be too bad to put these together but AA gets over $700 for an adapter kit. I also see a 700R4 main shaft available for it which is included in the kit. This will be a trail/street project mostly behind a 5.3 motor. Anybody got any good info on this or is it better just to find a factory Tcase to put behind it. I like the 205 just for the insurance and he can pick it up cheap. project looks as follows.

CJ jeep
60/14bolt
5.3 ltr
4L60E
possible 205

Done some searching and still searching but thought this might be faster as his trans is being built this week and if we need to change main shaft then I need to know.

I just finished a lt1 4l60e to 203/205 doubler. There are a couple of issue you need to look at. Where are you going to get the speed sensor from. If you don't tell the computer that you have doubled the gear ratios. It'll be pissed. Also what year 4l60 do you have. 96up has the 6 bolt tailshaft housing and 96 down has the old school 4 bolt. Also check your tail shaft and make sure it's a 27 spline. They did make the 32spline for the 4l60 that came in the zr2 truck with the 4.3l. Please let us know what you have. If its a 4bolt tail shaft. and 27 spline 4x4 shaft. it's a bolt up with factory adapter just need a 241 tcase speed sensor. If it's a 6bolt tailshaft housing then I think your in for some custom work. Mg

I appreciate the advice. i kept reading and sent him the same questions pretty much. If it is the newer 6 bolt tailhousing I am pretty sure we will do something different. I find out the info I will post it up but for now I am waiting on the same info.

Thanks again

Why would you not do a th350 and program the pcm to not read the trans stuff? Even if the tuning was the same price as the adapter you would still not be runnin a 4l60. :dunno:

The Jeep will see as much street time as trail time if not more and looking for the overdrive gearing and already has one. This will be alot of a "show" jeep. Father/son project I was just trying to give him some guidance on parts.

Also trying to learn a little in the process :dblthumb:

I would just run a np241

it will have a good enough gear ratio that with the 4l60 it'll crawl decent/good with the proper axle gears for tires. (3:1 first gear in the 4l60)

When he graduates to wanting to crawl more extreme trails, he'll want a doubler or low geared Atlas anyway.

Yea that was going to be option 2 from the research I have done. This guy is really new to the sport/hobby so if he enjoyed more than he thought and got a lil carried away on the woopow just thought the 205 would hold up a lil longer. laughing1 That was before I seen how much work and money was involved.

i used a klune v in between the 4l60 and the 205, but now they have 'box of rocks' ? for about half what it paid for the klune v, and i made the vss work in the 205

Thanks for the info. Pretty sure he is going to run 241.
